Possible to merge Retail and Wholesale sites?

Hopefully some of you fine folks out there can help out with this...

I currently have 2 zen cart sites.
1 Retail, 1 Wholesale.

Retail is pretty basic
(http://store.nightgauntgraphics.com/)
Wholesale is set up with Product Attribute Grid
(http://wholesale.nightgauntgraphics.com/)

I would like to merge the 2 sites using Dual Pricing
for wholesale customers to log in and shop with wholesale pricing
on the retail site (a lot easier to maintain 1 site!)

Now, the problem I'm foreseeing is including the Product Attribute Grid on wholesale log in ONLY.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to set this up properly
or am I just being silly?

Cheers!

Re: Possible to merge Retail and Wholesale sites?

Difficult to do, I think.

Why don't you want to use the attribute grid for the retail customers ?

Thought about that...

But I need to try and keep the retail part as simple as possible.
Some folks still have problems figuring out a drop down menu!
Afraid a quantity grid would confuse folks just looking to purchase one item/size.
Wholesale customers are ordering multiple quantities of the same size...

Just my $.02 worth, but I don't think it makes sense to assume customers are idiots.

Your wholesale customers are people, just like your retail customers. If they can figure out the attributes, so can the retail people.

Not assuming customers are idiots.

I've been working on the site for quite a few years now.
The site has been up for quite a long time now and initially I had it set up with the Attributes Grid and quite a few people had problems with it.
"I don't understand how to pick a size".
Even with instructions above the grid.

Wholesale people got it because they are actually looking to buy multiple quantities, retail folks who just want 1 shirt 1 size did not.

Therefore I changed it to a drop down to make it easier to understand.
It worked. Problem never came up again. [edit] Okay, well it comes up less frequently! [edit]

Since then I have opened a separate shop for wholesale with the Attribute Grid.
Updating both sites has become a daunting task.

The Dual Pricing Module sounds much better than just giving wholesale customers "discount pricing" on the retail site.
Discount Pricing does not show the discount price of each product, it only gives xx% off of the cart during check out.

I would like to be able to combine the 2 sites.
Retail customers get retail pricing with a drop down menu for sizes.
Wholesale customers get wholesale pricing with the Attribute Grid for size quantities.

Ya know. After going back and reading and re-reading my previous posts, I don't really see where I was assuming customers are idiots.

I have been running a rather successful online business for at least 5 years, dealing with people from all over the world.
Tackling every problem as it comes up to make my site as simple to navigate and order items as possible.

I would never waste my time or yours asking questions on these forums if there was not a legitimate reason.
I only mentioned that some folks have problems with different buttons, menus, etc.

Don't really appreciate you insinuating that I think / treat my customers as idiots.

Going from past experience, not everyone in the world is as computer savvy as the lot on this forum and it's admin.

If there is a problem customers are having on your website, no matter what it is, you should do what you can to make it easier on them and anyone else that comes in that might have the same problem.

Guess this is why I never really bother trying these forums for direct answers.

This is what prompted my comment. Sorry if you were offended.

That said, it doesn't seem reasonable to let one comment by one poster, however inappropriate, determine your opinion of this entire forum.

This is the best open source support forum on the Web, and thousands of Zenners receive 'direct answers' regularly.

The direct answer to your original question is: you (or someone) would have to write code which modified the attribute process and most likely the Attribute mod you referred to. It's way beyond the scope of a forum reply, I think.

Re: Possible to merge Retail and Wholesale sites?

There is a multi site module that many have mastered and run different front ends with one admiin & DB

Support is lacking on the forum but as stated, many have had success

I would try it on test installs to see if it will do what you want
