adding additional box same as 'latest products' underneath it on home page

How can I put an extra box under latest products in the centre column on the home page.

I'd like to be able to call it 'special offers' or something like that and choose the products displayed in it.

Or would I have to have a 'special offers' category with all the products in there and somehow tell zen to display those products in the box?

Easiest and simpliest way of doing this would be great! I have no idea where to start really?!

Try the builtin one
admin > config > index listing > Show Special Products on Main Page

Set up what you want on special

admin > catalog > specials

Ok I have that set to 3 but its not showing on the main page?
