Error when upgrading to new version through Softaculous

Ok, well I hope someone can help as I can't seem to get any help anywhere else.

I tried to upgrade to the latest version of Zen Cart through Softaculous. Everything seemed to go OK as a message on the screen said Congratulations, the software was upgraded successfully and to complete the upgrade to click on a link below. Clicking on the link just brought up a blank page and now when trying to get into my admin site I also get a blank page and 2 error messages come up when trying to actually get into my site:

Warning: Unterminated comment starting line 91 in /home/xxxxx/public_html/includes/application_top.php on line 91

Fatal error: fatal flex scanner internal error--end of buffer missed in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/includes/application_top.php on line 91

Does anyone have any idea whether it's something in the Zen Cart part of the installation or if it's to do with Softaculous and more importantly can anyone help!

You don't say what versions you were upgrading from and to, but it's never a good idea to upgrade Zencart using an auto-installer.

I would try replacing that file (includes/application_top.php) with a fresh copy from the Zencart zip file first, and see if you get any other errors.

I replaced that file with a "new" copy but it didn't make any difference. I was upgrading from 1.3.8 (a or b I think) to the latest version.
