It would be more logical to select shipping before going to PayPal site

About express checkout: Before I installed Express checkout the shipping options displayed before being transferred to Paypal. Now it appears that shipping will not be charged. It would be more logical to select the correct shipping option before being transferred to Paypal so it is clear what the total amount would be.

That's how Express Checkout Shortcut is designed.
Please report your suggestion/complaint to PayPal directly: https://www.paypal.com/mts

Agreed, it is abysmal the way it works. I'm going to ditch Paypal Express primarily for this reason, too confusing for customers.

Re: It would be more logical to select shipping before going to PayPal site

What exactly do you think is "confusing"?

Is it the shortcut button to go to paypal from the shopping cart page?
Is it that you think the customer would prefer to create an account and give you their shipping address before logging in to PayPal?
Is it that you think your customers are confused because you are used to a different order?

Blindly saying "it's abysmal" is like saying "I hate children because they make noise."

Re: It would be more logical to select shipping before going to PayPal site

A customer adds a product to cart and is then given the option to either go to checkout or to "Check out with PayPal The safer, easier way to pay", the customer thinks goody I can do this because it's faster and safer.

They click the button and are taken to PayPal where they are asked to fill in details. Nowhere is it indicated that they will be returned to the shopping cart to view shipping and complete the order (at this stage of the process they are unaware of all but the order sub-total). This is where the confusion lies. Three customers within a two week period have telephoned me asking how do they add the shipping. Visitor analysis indicates that a number of customers abandon the cart during the PayPal phase of shopping. I can only assume that some of this abandonment is due to this issue.

I think a customer should see his total charge before being whisked away to PayPal, even if it then returns the customer to the confirmation page it will prevent this all too common confusion. Even if this means a basic account (shipping address) is created first.

Re: It would be more logical to select shipping before going to PayPal site

Have you tried turning off the shortcut button on the shopping cart page?
As of v1.3.9g there's an option to do that within your EC module settings in your ZC admin.

I did try this and for some reason the button remains in place and does not turn off. When shop gets quiet I'll try to uninstall and reinstall.

How exactly did you upgrade to 1.3.9g? Did you happen to miss any of the files? ref: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=940862#post940862

Uh huh the old files were changed that are not in the changelog file trick.

Indeed that has fixed it. Many thanks.
