Bringing buyers and sellers together?

My wife has a hobby in which she goes to a website that is specialized for that hobby where buyers and sellers come together. Sellers post items, buyers buy items (via Paypal), and the site is setup on a yearly membership basis for those who wish to sell. Because the site has issues and constantly goes down, my thought is in creating a similar site but charging a per item posting fee.
Is Zencart able to do this?

ZenCart is not designed by default to allow others to post items

There is a 3rd party add on for auction that I have not used so am not fully aware of its function that might be sufficient
