fresh install-1.3.9g-downloads

This is a fresh install of 1.3.9g with a new database and this is happening:

click ad to cart and go through the order process---free item---get download link in your order (after you make account)

but then we are greeted with:
Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

What did I do wrong...have checked my live store settings with this new one and still get the error.

the downloads folder is set to chmodd 755

DarkAngel:

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Some googling suggests that this is symptomatic of one or more of the following:

  • corrupted cookies in your browser. Clear your cache and cookies, and restart the browser.
  • installation of web accelerator addons to your computer/browser. Uninstall or disable these and these symptoms tend to go away. (Some browsers have acceleration features built-in. Disabling/resetting these may also help.)
  • the website you're trying to access is receiving the request as HTTPS but is actually operating in HTTP mode ... or vice-versa. This could be a server software config problem, or maybe your domain is misconfigured for SSL, or maybe you've configured your store to be SSL when it's not, or vice versa

yes i have it set as download with redirect

hi DrByte,

her store has no SSL and is set as such. I even had the host log in as me from there place and she got the same error and said it must be the store code somewhere.

I have tried this on the macintosh and 2 pc's with safari, IE, Firefox, and google chrome.

the bad error claims to have this link for downloading:

so it is redirecting but it is also adding a bit there so it can not finish --

Re: fresh install-1.3.9g-downloads

What happens if you point your browser to ''http://cutentoonz.com/shop/download/Glinda.zip' ? Do you get the same error?

yes I do and hve tried pointing it to the first part and dropping name of zip and still get error

not sure what is going on here. She had a store a few years ago and it worked just right but she stopped running it and got rid of files. I even tried installing a fresh version d and it still does it.

Re: fresh install-1.3.9g-downloads

ok, I have an udate to this impossible problem

I decided to try out the installation on my own server by merely transferring her directory to my server....editing the config files to match server information and creating a new database

the store loaded and the download worked as it should

then I reuploaded the files to the store on her powweb server...no joy, that idiot thing still gives the bad error, not to mention the directory hangs onto that .fkwphkhgnnmbukjvrtd directory inside the pub folder...it will not delete but creates a new one for everytime we try the download link...lol

so anymore ideas or is this something that is certainly server related.

What are the permission settings on /pub these should be 777 or 755 if you cannot use 777 on the server ...

Have you checked with your host to see if symbolic links work?

What happens if you set the Configuration ... Attributes ... Redirect to OFF ...

well I have tried with 777 and with 755 and neither want to play nice. I have tried on an entirely different server and it works as is---copied the directory from one to the other and just changed config files.

I just now set it to no redirect and the silly thing worked...but then of course the links will be able to be shared. I took a look and it being with redirect is supposed to work on Linux servers...powweb claims she has a linux server so am confused.

have put in a work ticket with powweb to see if they can make it behave...but if we have to then we will leave as the redirect off and hope the links do not get shared.

thanks hun

Re: fresh install-1.3.9g-downloads

You could try streaming instead of redirect. It's a little more server-intensive, but should work. Not recommended for huge files though.

Re: fresh install-1.3.9g-downloads

well i will let the owner know...she is so disappointed that symlink should work on their servers since they are linux but powweb just did so much then stopped saying they can not recreate the problem and had her reinstall it using their software. it installed an older version and she is afreaid to update it and get the problems again.

we have put it to no redirect which i showed her how the link can be obtained and used by anyone vs the redirect and as I said she is so disallusioned with her host.
