Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

Kennym:

Hi, I have installed your template and and I have found the answer to my question in post #372. So there you have it, no question from me, just Thank You for the free template it has made my Free Download Store look very neat and tidy.

Instructions were verbose and easy to follow for a novice like me and my update to 1.5.1 was probably worse than setting up the template. I have not noticed anything that needs attention and my visitors are happy with the new look.

:hug:

Great! I am happy that you found the answer to your question. Best wishes for your site!

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

I am just finding my way with my first zen cart installation (1.5.1) and think the Aberdeen template is absolutely brilliant! (I downloaded the latest version) Thank you Anne!

I ran into a little problem, my own fault really, I should have read the readme text file all the way through instead of step by step like I was doing.

(I made my slider images too large and for a while there got a bit confused......)

I began reading this thread to see what was going on (I know it was plain common sense that was needed in the end, I should have just read the code for the actual size of the slider first or even just a few lines further in the instructions LOL!) anyway I got up to about page 30 or so in this thread before thinking I should really read on a little more in the text file then I realize there is a minor typo in the text readme file (Probably left over from an update or something.):

A. Create your images for the slideshow. The demo slideshow image dimensions are 740 pixels by 430 pixels.

Hah! if only I bothered to read a few lines further LOL!

default width 700px height 250px

Anyway, rather than read the whole thread to the end just to see if this has been posted, I thought I would save a little time, post it here and offer A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!! to Anne, honestly, reading through this thread made me so angry time and time again.

A person gives up their time and puts in amazing effort to create something of such excellent quality, then gives it away for FREE and then offers support for FREE just to help people and honestly, some people are just plain lazy not to mention rude with their posts. I want, I want, but I just want.............. unbelievable, just PLEASE read the instructions like I didnt. :D

Anne I have to say your approach to zen cart support in order to support your business is absolutely first class, if anyone is wondering the best way to offer free products and help people (As well as generating interest in their services of course.) Then just look at how Anne has put the time and effort in here to set up, and on top of that, what a lovely lady, so polite and helpful in her posts no matter what the time wasting question may be!

Anne, in my opinion, you have nailed it! :thumbsup: Thank you. Thanks to the others involved with this great cart package! & Thanks again!

I will be donating when business begins to flow once more!

Take it easy,

Dave

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

Just for reference, I ended up choosing to use a custom image size, when I checked the css file, the actual size of the slider (As far as I can tell) reads:

width:550px;height:250px

I scanned the rest of the thread and couldn't see it so thought I would post, unless i have missed something (Very possible!) then maybe the readme txt could do with an update next time round?

Anyway,

Thanks again Anne! Your work is very much appreciated.

This template is on my list for a future update. It is hard to say when I will have the time to do the update, but I do have a list of items to be updated on this template.

Thanks,

Anne

This does not sound like a template related problem. Can you be more specific about the problem?

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

41 pages of postings (a few hours reading), most of their questions answered in install instructions (Read the instructions!!).
Some very patient answers for some that did not deserve patience (yes Linux, you!). Had fun figuring out a few bits. I left out a comma somewhere and blanked the entire cart :-( . (Note to self, 'BACK IT UP').
I've managed to get your template working with Romanian as default language.
(Note to self, 'BACK IT UP').
Had to shorten a few translations to avoid wrapping.
Only have 3 banners on site 'Zen' 'Picaflor Azul' (you may have heard of that one) and my hosting company, the companies who I am indebted to for their help.
(Note to self, 'BACK IT UP').
I do have a question (or 2).
The files 'tpl_search_header.php' and 'tpl_search.php' in folder /includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/sideboxes specify 'search.jpg' for the search button.
I would like to be able to choose seperate images for English and Romanian, but as the files are in the 'template/sideboxes' folder and not the language folder, I'm not sure how to override them. Is this a template question?
It would be nice if I could do the same for the word 'item(s)' which appears in
'/includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/common'.
I await your response with bated breath oh great Zenner.

Two more things......
A thousand thanks for your template, and
(Note to self 'BACK IT UP', and stop using brackets!)

Lol ;-) If you download the Sheffield Blue template package and then upload the includes/templates/sheffield_blue/sideboxes/tpl_search.php and includes/templates/sheffield_blue/sideboxes/tpl_search_header.php files to your includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/sideboxes folder, you will be able to use multi lanugage buttons. I have this on the list of things to fix in a future template update.

To make the word "item(s)" multi-language, you can create a constant for the text and add the definition to the includes/languages/your language/aberdeen_neutral/header.php file. Thank you for pointing this out. I will include this change in future template updates. You would add this code in place of the "item(s)" text in the includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/common/tpl_header.php file.

<?php echo CART_TITLE_ITEMS; ?>

Then in the includes/languages/your language/aberdeen_neutral/header.php add this:

 define('CART_TITLE_ITEMS', 'item(s)');

Thanks,

Anne

Progress report:
Copied files as described.
Result:
  Search text box reduced to half length
  Search button disappears and is replaced with word 'search' or Romanian alternative.
:no:
Compared old and new files and saw that old had

  style="width: 100px"

Added this piece of code and search text box regained it's size.

Looking at code, saw

(BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH_HEADER,HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON)

Did a text search in the Aberdeen zip and the Sheffield zips for

BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH_HEADER
and
HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON

After some head scratching, realised that I needed to define HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON in /includes/languages/romanian/button_names.php
and /includes/languages/english/button_names.php

Added:

define('BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH_HEADER', 'button_search_header.gif');
Added new button 'button_search_header.gif'

Still no image for button. :frusty:
Had a brainwave, (previously adding second and third images for products helped) renamed 'button_search_header.gif' to 'button_searchheader.gif' and changed the ref in button_names.php

Hallelujah!! I have a button, but wait it is not sitting in line with search box. (pass the hemlock please)

Ok, started again so that the refs all call

BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH

SEARCH_BUTTON

And button_search.gif

(trying to remember the exact changes, but it was 3am)

Button and search box appear but positioning is off.

I am a little stumped now.
I did notice that there was another difference in the class names
A.N. = class="header-search-box"
S.B. = class="search-header-box"

Is this important?
A reminder if you need to look, site is http://www.micaanglie.ro
I am really enjoying my first foray into PHP and CSS, I only knew some HTML until I started with your template.

One more thing. Thank God I Made BACKUPS :smile:

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

Started from scratch (backup)
copied 'search.jpg' from /includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/images to language buttons folders (/includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/buttons/romanian)
and renamed to 'button_header_search.jpg'
added

define('BUTTON_IMAGE_HEADER_SEARCH', 'button_header_search.jpg');

to both languages (/includes/languages/...../button_names.php)

Before uploading from sheffield_blue template I changed code in 'tpl_search.php' line 21
from

zen_image_submit(BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH_HEADER,HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON);

to

zen_image_submit(BUTTON_IMAGE_HEADER_SEARCH,HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON);

and changed code in 'tpl_search_header.php' line 19
from

 class="search-header-box"..................................... zen_image_submit (BUTTON_IMAGE_SEARCH_HEADER,HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON);

to

 class="header-search-box" ..................................... zen_image_submit (BUTTON_IMAGE_HEADER_SEARCH,HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON);

First change to class brings the border back to the search box.
:D (I feel almost clever)
Almost there, compared to the demo on your site I have 1 minor difference:
The search text box is aligned lower than the search button image.
Any ideas?
I do hope this is of use to someone else.

I am sorry about that! You also need to copy the:

includes/languages/english/sheffield_blue/button_names.php

and add your button button_search_header.png in english and romanian.

If the class used in the sideboxes/tpl_search_header.php file is different, then you should change it to the class used in the Andover Modern template so the css styles will still apply.

Thanks,

Anne

You can isolate the search box to adjust positioning by using the class .header-search-box in the stylesheet.css file.

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread

Hi there;

I was wondering if you could help me out.
I seem to have disabled my go to checkout button and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to put it back. (yes I'm an idiot)
I've looked at the coding in /public_html/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_shopping_cart_default.php and nothing is commented out :

<!--bof shopping cart buttons--> <div class="buttonRow forward"><?php echo '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_SHIPPING, '', 'SSL') . '">' . zen_image_button(BUTTON_IMAGE_CHECKOUT, BUTTON_CHECKOUT_ALT) . '</a>'; ?></div> <div class="buttonRow back"><?php echo zen_back_link() . zen_image_button(BUTTON_IMAGE_CONTINUE_SHOPPING, BUTTON_CONTINUE_SHOPPING_ALT) . '</a>'; ?></div> <?php // show update cart button if (SHOW_SHOPPING_CART_UPDATE == 2 or SHOW_SHOPPING_CART_UPDATE == 3) { ?> <div class="buttonRow back"><?php echo zen_image_submit(ICON_IMAGE_UPDATE, ICON_UPDATE_ALT); ?></div> <?php } else { // don't show update button below cart ?> <?php } // show update button ?> <!--eof shopping cart buttons-->

Also gone to /public_html/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php Checkout is there :

define('HEADER_TITLE_CHECKOUT', 'Checkout');

Also checked in Admin/Config/MyStore and Display Cart after adding Product is set to true

Could you possibly point me in the right direction for finding my lost button?

Thanks,
KJ

Can you post a link to the page that is supposed to have the "go to checkout" button?

Hi Anne;

Thanks for getting back.

http://bride-azzled.com/index.php?main_page=shopping_cart&number_of_uploads=0

It looks like you probably made a mistake in the installation of the google checkout module. I would restore the backup from before the module installation and try installing again.

Thanks,

Thanks for getting back Anne.
I tried uninstalling Google Checkout in Admin and the button hasn't reappeared.
Ideas? Help?

No, you need to uninstall the actual module files. Just restoring your backup prior to the module installation should do it.

Thanks,

Anne
