First Page very slow to load

I've recently setup zencart.

The first page is very slow to load Parse time = 20 seconds
after that all the pages quite fast load Parse time = 0.5 seconds

I run other cms and cart scripts with much larger databases with the current hosting provider, without any performance problems, so I feel changing hosts is not a solution.

why is the first page so slow to load?

No problem here, it took about 1 second

No problem here either. I suspect your server was temporarily overloaded or having a wobble.

Loaded immediately for me. I've had this issue a few times but it was on random pages at random times. I suspect my issue was more hosting related.

The problem may have to do with reverse DNS. Customers who log in from an IP address that doesn't have a valid PTR record (like many dynamically assigned IP addresses) will have this problem.

That's why the people who tried to help you didn't experience the problem. They were accessing your site from an IP address with a valid PTR record.
