Free Shipping for US, not Canada

US customers receive free shipping on products, not attributes.
I've never really been able to get the "free shipping module" to work correctly, so my work-around was to have zero weight for the products and actual weight for attribute. Therefore, if a US customer put the product and the attribute in their shopping cart, it had the appearance that the shipping was free on the product and then they only paid shipping for the attribute.

BUT NOW things are getting interesting...

The client is opening up Canada. Therefore, no more free shipping.

But if it set item to free shipping for US customers (lower 48 only), it also makes the attribute free shipping.

I've heard suggestions to have a "hidden field" for free shipping for the product. I have no idea how to do that.

I've probably looked at hundreds of posts on this forum. None are really close to what I need.

Is this a first time for ZC? I have to believe that other e-commerce websites have free shipping for US and not international. What am I missing?

I did set up New Zealand, but that has it's own directory, so this issue did not come into play.

All shipping is by weight on my website. If you want to look at the website you can go to https://www.martekdavits.com.

Could a suggestion be to duplicate the website in a /canada/ directory? Therefore, just keeping zero weight in US and then having weight for the products on the Canada website?

Any suggestions? THANK YOU for your help.

Re: Free Shipping for US, not Canada

If the Product weight is 0 and you have 0 weight set to mean Free Shipping ... then add the weight to the Attribute that needs shipping ... then that should resolve the problem ...

But you want Free Shipping just for the US and not for others ...

You need to give more details about your shipping ...

What shipping modules are you currently using?

Re: Free Shipping for US, not Canada

If I use the free shipping, then it also wants to have the attribute as free.

US
Product - weighs 40 lbs.
Attribute - weighs 7 lbs.
Continental US (48 states) get free shipping on product only.
right now, product weight is set to 0,
But when I change weight to 40 lbs, it charges shipping for both.

Shipping is based on weight table based shipping.

Canada
Pay full price. No free shipping, charge shipping for product & attribute.

Re: Free Shipping for US, not Canada

I'm really struggling with this. I keep thinking I am asking the question incorrectly. It seems like such a standard request. Let me try one more time.

(1) Current shipping is Weight based shipping.
(2) There are 3 davits (product) that has shipping setting as 0 weight so I can ensure free shipping.
(3) All 3 davits have 1 attribute. That 1 attribute weighs 7.5 lbs.
(4) If a customer orders any davit, then no shipping is calculated for the davit, but shipping is calculated on the attribute. (if they add it to the product)

Everything is working perfectly as long as we continue to ship to US ONLY.

However, the client also wants to ship to Canada.

Therefore, all products (davits) will need to include shipping (and all attributes) Basically no free shipping for anything.

One of the things we did for New Zealand is create a subdirectory for /NZ/. That way, if you are in NZ, then it has a completely different table rate. It works fine. We even did the auto-detect and it seems to work.

However, Canada does not need all the things we did for /NZ/ so we were thinking of just keeping them together.

Is it possible to create an attribute for $-79.00 (for US Customers only) I'm trying to do that now, but I can't get it to work)

Of course, the customer would not know they received free shipping until they log in.

Just a thought. thank you.
