New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

H everyone. I just did a fresh install of ZenCart 1.39g the other day, and it's telling me the database needs to be patched to a higher level.

Looking over everything in Tools - Server Info, it says the database is in fact version 1.39g. Any idea of what might be happening here?

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Have you installed any addons?
What exactly is ALL the version information showing in Admin->Tools->Server Info ? (Zen Cart version, Database version, history, etc)

DrByte:

The only addition I've used is Easy Populate, and it was doing this before I even touched that. I mean, literally, as soon as I was done with the install, it started showing the database message.

I copied everything showing in Server/Version info to the attached doc file.

As far as what's showing in Server/Version Info, here's the top part, if you mean EVERYTHING, let me know.

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

That's what I suspected. Some of your files in the /includes/ folder are damaged or missing. Re-upload them using your FTP program.

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Hello DrByte,

Or should I say Sensei ;)

I seem to be having a similar problem, but includes seems to be up to date. Here's what I've got in the server info:

** Zen Cart 1.3.9g**

 ** Database Patch Level: 1.3.8**

v1.3.8 [2009-05-01 14:39:43] (Fresh Installation)
v1.3.8 [2009-05-01 14:39:43] (Fresh Installation)

Please advise,

Ray

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

That means you've updated your PHP files, but didn't run zc_install to do the database-upgrade step.

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

NEVER EVER use fantastico or any other automated tool to do your upgrades for you.

Follow the upgrade instructions and do it the safe way: yourself. https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=98

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Remember that old saying about closing the barn door after the cows have left? ;-)

Ok, now that I know better, I will assume that I should download the upgrade zip file and run the install script and opt for the db upgrade, right?

Basically, how do I fix my mistake, easily...

Thanks,

Ray

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

There may not be an easy way. If Fantasico has already stomped all over your files, you may have lost code related to add-ons.

Hopefully, you backed up your files before starting the upgrade. I'd recommend going back to that and then following the upgrade instructions that come with Zen Cart when it's downloaded from this site (or Sourceforge).

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

I have to say that this ws not a terribly helpful solution "start over" so I thought it would be best to look into what Fantastico did, and see what the db upgrade does and go from there.

Here's something you may want to put somewhere for future use.

Fantastico does a pretty good job of the update, only they update based on a number of factors, which, sadly, doesn't include the database upgrade. However, uploading the most recent version of the install folder (zc_install) will get that sorted for you. As well, you'll have to remember that there is a new admin folder created as well as part of the Fantastico upgrade, and this will have to be handled as wel.

So, first, upload zc_install from a current upgrade patch to your Fantastico upgraded shop, and surf your way to "yoursite.com/zc_install/" This will trigger the installer, accpet your way to DATABASE UPGRADE, and proceed with DATABASE UPGRADE ONLY!

Next, Fantastico will have given you a new admin folder, easy enough to use if you've not changed your admin folder, but proper security procedures means you should have done this. If you have renamed your admin folder (according to the tutorial here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=33) you will need to make yourself a backup of the configure.php file that is in the "your_admin_folder/includes" and keep it somewhere safe to refer to later. Now you can either delete your current admin folder or make a backup of it. It's up to you. I simply renamed mine. Then you rename the current zc_admin folder to what your old admin folder was called, and finally compare your admin configure.php file with the new one, make sure there are no additional bits of information needed there, and upload it to the new_admin_folder/includes folder.

Simple eh? I hope so..

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Though you may consider it not terribly helpful, it's still the best advice.

Your analysis hasn't addressed either of the fundamental problems associated with any off the installer upgrades (I'm not picking on Fantasico), namely that they tend to overwrite files that have changes and leave security vulnerabilities in override files.

Unlike some, I have no issues with Fantasico (and similar) installations (as long as they are using up-to-date releases). But for the vast majority of Zen Cart sites it simply isn't safe to upgrade this way.

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Agreed, there should be a caveat noted that this work around is for those who are using the "basic installation" without add-ons and the like, although those can be restored with proper diligence.

Re: New install of 1.39g says database needs patching?

Hello All,

To say I'm a novice is an extreme understatement!!! So I really appreciate having this forum to refer to so please excuse my ignorance and thanks to everyone in advance:smile:

I'm having this "database needs patching" message, too... it's new install (thru GoDaddy) and then uploaded zc_install.... everything else seems o.k. for now except this "patching" message.

I re-uploaded the /includes folder.....same message. I even re-downloaded ZenCart cause I thought maybe my first one was corrupt.....same message.

This is at the top of my server info page.......

Server Information
Server Host: p3nlhg408.shr.prod.phx3.secureserver.net (184.168.193.64) Database Host: imb1036406445363.db.7211763.hostedresource.com (184.168.225.107)

Been working on this for a couple of days now and can't seem to get past it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
