Problem when applying a Discount Code to a Gift Certificate Purchase

Hi,
I am using Zencart 1.3.9c

I can make coupons/discount coupons just fine. I am trying to create a code for when people purchase gift certificates and that that use this code 'gift10' to get 25% off the gift certificates. I've made the specific gift certificate category and gift certificate item status = 'allow' and set all other categories to 'deny.' I get the error message 'This coupon code is not valid for any product currently in your cart. gift10'

Then i added one more item to allow (a pair of earings) and the code works on that item when it's in the cart.

Any suggestions?

Gift Certificates are specifically coded to not allow for Discount Coupons ...

You would need to customize your code to break this built in safety ...

Because Gift Certificates are cash ... and can be used by the buyer or sent to another person discounts on Gift Certificates can easily become something that ends up with the Store Owner "paying" the customer to buy from them ...
