additional purchase options needed for downloads

Hey gang,

Rebuilding my website in the near future and I'm combining physical single song CDs and downloads in the same product (they've been separate since inception).

Here's the problem:

I have pulldown menus that enable extra cost options on the CD songs I sell (key changing and editing). These were not shown previously on the same song, but different product number as a download. Now that the 2 are combined, I really want the customer to be able to choose download for a song, add an option for a key change/digital edit (additional cost), and get the download at checkout. I will email a link to download the key change/edit the next business day, but at least they have something to work with immediately after checkout with the original key/time length.

Of course, as soon as I created this, I discovered that I cannot continue though checkout with any download (even when the pulldowns are set to a default-no charge). The message is the dreaded: "Sorry we are not shipping to this region at this time." As soon as I removed all the option boxes from the product, the download went through checkout perfectly.

I also attempted to use a free shipping options module, but I can't configure it for the additional costs options. With the set to 0.00 - 0.01 it displayed, but I couldn't add the options (hard to explain).

I think I've conveyed the concept I'm looking for. Anyone have any ideas for a solution?

Is the product set up as a Combo? ie: both physical-and-virtual?

No - they purchase CD OR download within the product. I just wanted to offer the key ch/edit option on downloads as customers are ordering fewer physical CDs. Sometimes they are in a real hurry to get a key change, and this will allow me to email it within the product instead of typing messages to me.

I think I discovered a fix after much forum reading. :)

1 - Place a weight on the physical CDs
2 - Turn on Free shipping module
3 - Redo all the language on the Free shipping module so that it doesn't confuse the customer into thinking that are a physical product.

I've got it working on one product and it seems to be correct. Been at it all day building the new concept. I'll keep at it in the next few days to see if I need to adjust more.
