Template Selection Problem HELP

OK, so I'm a newbie. I purchased the PDF version of the book and I am trying to do a template override. According to the book I just create a new file folder, includes/templates/newdirectory. In the example they say to copy the contents of the includes/templates/classic directory to this new directory. They then advise you to modify the template_info.php file to reflect the new directory name, creator, purpose.

I did all this, and no additional changes and I assumed that when I selected this template from Tools, Template Selection that everything would be the same as I had not changed anything else. Once I selected the new template and did a refresh the side boxes were gone as well as the standard message from the header. Sorry for all the information but I wanted to supply as much as possible.

I thought that the override only affected the standard configuration files that were changed, am I wrong in that assumption? Do I need to copy all the files from the template default directory over to the new template directory? Are there other files or options in the ADMIN area that I need to notify of the new template? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using V1.3.9f with GoDaddy as the host.

After selecting a new template in admin, you need to go to Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller and click Reset at the bottom.

You'll also have to copy the css and images folders from the Classic template to your custom template for the images to show up. When you're finished, your store should look exactly like the Classic template. If not, supply a link and we'll take a look.

Did you reset the sideboxes for this new template??

admin > tools > layout box controller > reset
