Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

I have a new Zencart installation using v1.3.9F, in a windows environment being hosted by GoDaddy. Other than some CSS changes and products being added nothing else has been modified.

After installing the built in Paypal Standard IPN I have been unable to process an order in the store with this module. I can process a free product. In the admin console when looking at payment modules in the order field it shows as processing and I have no idea if this is correct or not. The free says default in the order column.

When I login as a customer I am able to add a product to my cart, checkout, get routed to paypal, make the payment and return to my e-store but then there are no orders shown from the admin console and there is nothing showing under my customer account.

When I first set it up I was using PDT but when I checked with GoDaddy they said that cURL was only available for the linux environmental so I turned it off in the payment module (removed the token code) and turned it off at the paypal website but still no orders. I spoke to Paypal and they say they are sending and receiving the correct information on the IPN so I am not sure where to go from here.

Help please!!!!

Three bad choices: (No offense intended)
a) GoDaddy
b) windows
c) Standard IPN.

I strongly recommend moving to a Linux hosting account, on a more reliable hosting company.

And, I strongly recommend clicking "Remove" on PayPal Website Payments Standard/IPN, and clicking "Install" on PayPal Express Checkout.
You'll have no end of problems if you try to use Standard/IPN esp on GoDaddy.

Express Checkout is a more mature more contemporary more reliable interaction with PayPal.

Additionally, you're using an old version of Zen Cart. I recommend upgrading sooner than later.

If you choose to stick with Standard/IPN for some strange unrecommended reason, the long list of troubleshooting steps is here: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/PayPal

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

I was afraid someone would say something like this. So I have another hosting account at Ipage, any comments on them? They are all linux I believe.

That said does anyone know if there are any additional cost from Paypal for using the Express Checkout option??

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

I don't see any problems mentioned when I search the forums for that host.

There is no price difference between Paypal IPN and Express.

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

stevesh, thanks for the reply.

I was looking at the express checkout and it says it requires cURL. According to GoDaddy it is not available unless you are running Linux. Is this true? I don't know and have to go by what I am being told.

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

It wouldn't surprise me that GoDaddy is incapable of running various features on their servers, despite the fact that most normal hosting companies DO offer those features. Do yourself a HUGE favor: dump them.

GoDaddy is great for buying cheap domain names. They shouldn't be in any other business though ... all the rest are just cash-grabs.

Not familiar with your other hosting company. A forum search brings up several discussions where people have had some "issues". Your mileage may vary.

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

So now it gets more interesting. I send Tech support at Ipage an e-mail for the cURL proxy server address and they respond that they don't have a proxy server. If anyone is currently hosting on Ipage and using Paypal can you tell me if you have the proxy address?

Thanks!!

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

Can anyone recommend a reasonably price host that has been a solid performer and e-commerce friendly??

Thanks

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

Sorry to keep doing this but I am not as technical as I would like to be. I got the following information from Ipage with respect to Curl. It basically says what is supported by PHP.

cURL support enabled
cURL Information libcurl/7.18.2 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 libidn/1.8 libssh2/0.18

Does this mean I would have to write some type of script in order for cUrl to work? If so I think I'm done because I don't have a clue how to do that.:censored:

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

OK so I ran the curl test and it came back and said that data valadation was good and when I did it and specified paypal it said communication test OK. Here is the URL if anyone wants to see all the results.
http://store.practicalarms.com/extras/curltester.php

and then I ran it a second time with ?paypal=1

I have also attached 2 log file that I had already captured but was unsure of the results. I converted them to word doc files as they were easier to read that way.

Now this is at godaddy, running under windows, where I was told they don't have curl support unless your running linux.

A CURL Proxy should NOT be needed.

Only GoDaddy ever needed that, and it was stupid that they did.
They used to require it for many years, and finally removed it this year.
You need to turn that setting OFF.

No surprise. Just further proof that their staff don't know what they're doing.

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

So the only place I know of for setting for cURL are in the Store setup and with the PDT token. Are their any other places where these setting may be located?

Re: Paypal IPN not working properly after installation on GoDaddy

No. The only place you need to set anything in your store as far as CURL goes is in Admin->Configuration->My Store->CURL Proxy Status. AND IT SHOULD BE SET TO OFF.
