What do I do now? Installing on Windows

Hi

I have also just now downloaded the zencart zip folder. But while going through the installation guide I am stuck, as it says " Basically, in your FTP area look for a "www" or "public_html" or "htdocs" or "httpdocs" or "wwwroot" folder. These are the common folder names for what is referred to as the "webroot", which is where all website content is served from "

Now when I login to my webserver control panel, I cannot see any of these folder. Please advice which folder do I move the unzip folder of zen cart ?

Mentioned below are the folder that I can see in my control panel of my domain.
Admin
Cache
docs
download
editors
email
extras
images
includes
media
pub
zcinstall

Please if someone can guide me and help me know that to which I folder do I need to upload the zen cart folder ?

Regards
Vipin

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

Those are the main Zen Cart folders, which means that you already have them uploaded to your server. The folder they are in is your Zen Cart root.

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

I have uploaded the folder under html folder in my webserver.

Changed the names of two files as mentioned in the guide to configure.php.

Now when I go to a browser and enter http://www.mydomain.com/catalog/zc_install

I am getting a page which says "

The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Please try the following:

•Make sure that the Web site address displayed in the address bar of your browser is spelled and formatted correctly.
•If you reached this page by clicking a link, contact the Web site administrator to alert them that the link is incorrectly formatted.
•Click the Back button to try another link.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Technical Information (for support personnel)

•Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 404.
•Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled Web Site Setup, Common Administrative Tasks, and About Custom Error Messages.

Can someone please tell what have I done wrong or have I missed out something ?

Regards
Vipin

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

I have uploaded the folder under html folder
I go to a browser and enter http://www.mydomain.com/catalog/zc_install

One of these is wrong. If you uploaded the files into the /html/ folder, the path to run zc_install will be
http://www.mydomain.com/zc_install

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

You are using a Windows Server? May I suggest you switch to a Unix server before you go any further?

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

I tried, http://www.mydomain.com/zc_install

but this also did not work getting the same 'page cannot be displayed ' error.

I do not have an option to switch to unix, as I have already paid my hosting company for windows enviorment...if I do switch the money paid to them for windows goes in a bin as per the policy.

More over why shld I move to unix platform...is zen cart not compatiable on windows enviorment.

Anyone...? can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong ?

Win 7 is a desktop OS NOT a server OS
You need a hosting account with a provider

This is a self-help forum. If you want a paid support system then I suggest you use Magento Enterprise Edition, which costs $12,000+ per year and for that you get paid support.

There's no other option - you have to move to Linux hosting.

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

Apparently IIS can be used to run Zen Cart, as some people do it successfully, but you are seing why it is not common... or perhaps your host's competence with it.

MSSQL is very different from MySQL.
If your host doesn't offer MySQL in your current hosting plan, then you can't run Zen Cart on that server.

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

Well earlier I was able to reach till the zen cart welcome page... by entering http://www.dealsatclick.com/catalog/zc_install/index.php

But at that time it was going up to system check screen but use to give me some error saying CURL not avaialble or something like that, and and said to contact my administrator.

I spoke with my hosting company and they on my request have installed CURL even though I am on a windows platform and not a Linux enviorment.

But now when I am trying to access the same URL http://www.dealsatclick.com/catalog/zc_install/index.php

I am getting an error code 500" The website cannot be displayed "

If I remove index.php from the end and just enter
http://www.dealsatclick.com/catalog/zc_install

I am getting this error which I have copied pasted below, can someone please help ?

•A default document is not configured for the requested URL, and directory browsing is not enabled on the server.
Things you can try:
•If you do not want to enable directory browsing, ensure that a default document is configured and that the file exists.
•Enable directory browsing using IIS Manager.
1.Open IIS Manager.
2.In the Features view, double-click Directory Browsing.
3.On the Directory Browsing page, in the Actions pane, click Enable.
•Verify that the configuration/system.webServer/directoryBrowse@enabled attribute is set to true in the site or application configuration file.

Re: What do I do now? Installing on Windows

"500" errors are triggered by rules imposed by the server, usually resulting from security violations such as attempting to do things they don't want you doing.
The only way to determine what exactly is causing those errors is to review the server's error logs which document each instance of such an error. Only your hosting company will have access to those details, and only if they've enabled that logging.

Your first next step is to get your hosting company to explain exactly what they're rejecting.

More information on "500" errors: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=63

Additionally, since windoze servers don't know how to provide advanced security, they often reject the existence of .htaccess files which define security parameters. You might have to delete all the supplied .htaccess files and find out your own way to secure your site against malicious activity. That's one big downside to using windoze hosting.
