My changes won't save!

First, this is an install via fantastico deluxe from my webhost.

Zen cart will work and save all changes when I manually install it, however I removed it the other day and now cannot even get that to work (a whole other story I guess).

Issue: Zen cart is being installed into my root dir & will not save any changes made in the admin section or via ftp etc., When logging off it reverts back to the default settings. For example: I make a new category, I can see it in the admin section & on the site. I log off the admin page & close the site. I come back and all is gone, set back to default.

Tonight I realized that by putting zen cart in a new directory for example: public_html/store it will work and save changes. However I dont know how to make it my ROOT without it reverting back to NOT SAVING things.

I have checked permissions and everything seems alright.

Can anyone help me as to why zen cannot work in my root but can in another directory?

That sounds like some odd host/server quirk, as it is not standard Zen Cart behavior when installed to the root.
