How to MAKE customer select an option before checking out?

Hi all....Just spent 20 hours setting up attributes and options for each of my products and realized after the fact, a customer can add the product to his cart without selecting any options.

Is there a quick way to make the options/attributes mandatory? In other words, I have say 5 product option dropdowns for each product. I want to be sure all 5 dropdowns had a selection made before a customer can add a product to their cart. so in the end, they can only add a product to their cart that is fully customized to their needs. If a customer is able to skip the adding options process, my orders will be all messed up.

Any ideas? Im hoping its simple but Im a bit burned out today from staring at this computer.

You can add one more value to the option
Xall it select - pick - choose - - or what ever you like
Add it to the option list for a product
Make it default and display only - give it lowest sort order
Check that it is first and in the dropdown
