Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

In addition to the email newsletter signup option in the shopping cart, I would also like to have a newsletter signup form located on every page of my site to give the newsletter signup more visibility and also so a person can subscribe to the newsletter without having to buy something and checkout.

Building a list is important for sales and repeat sales....and ONLY having it located inside of the cart checkout is not a good idea....it's good to have it in the cart, yes....but ONLY in the cart, no.

I would also like for people to be able to use the "Newsletter Unsubscribe" to unsubscribe from this form on the pages just like they can unsubscribe from the one in the cart.

Thanks!

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

Thanks for the link SchoolBoy.

I downloaded and properly unzipped the files (so that the directory hierarchy was correct on my local machine)

I read the "read me" file and followed it's directions. I then uploaded the files to my zen cart root folder (to the same folder where the Admin, Cache, Docs, Download.....etc. folders exist)

I then went into my Admin panel, and installed the Newsletter Subscription as directed in the "read me".

However, the Subscription box does not show on my template when I click "Online Catalog" in the Admin panel.

Also, when I go into Tools/Send Email in my admin, the two customer groups: "Email Test Group - Customers" and "Email Test Group - Newsletter-only subscribers" do not show as the "read me" said they should.
In fact THIS is the only thing that shows in Tools/Send Email now:

1267 Illegal mix of collations (latin1_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'locate'
in:
[SELECT s.email_address as customers_email_address FROM zen_subscribers as s LEFT JOIN zen_configuration as q on LOCATE( s.email_address, q.configuration_value) >= 1 WHERE configuration_key = 'NEWSONLY_SUBSCRIPTION_TEST_GROUP' ]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

AND last...the new sidebox for this newsletter subscription doesn't show in tools/layout boxes controller as the "read me" says it's supposed to.

Something isn't right anymore.

I followed all the directions to a "T"...not sure what's going on??

Can anyone help?

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

Where is your site being hosted?

What method was used to originally install it?

What version of zencart are you using?

What other modules are you using?

There appear to be two areas of error:

  1. There is a collation conflict in the database, though how this has occurred I'm not sure - unless the module itself instructs the database to apply collation type - which is unlikely. I think that the problem is file-based.

  2. I don't think you have loaded everything correctly. Drill down into the folders of the module BEFORE you load it up, and see if it needs some folders re-named to match the name of the CUSTOM TEMPLATE your site is using.

It is hosted on Fat Cow....https://www.fatcow.com (USA market)

schoolboy:

Install Zen Cart? Fat Cow has a directory in their Control Panel named "Install Central". Zen Cart v1.3.9g is offered as one of the apps to install. That is how I installed it, from their Control Panel.

If you are talking about the Newsletter Subscription module..I simply uploaded it to my Zen Cart files as described in the above post.

schoolboy:

What version of zencart are you using?

v.1.3.9g

schoolboy:

What other modules are you using?

None.
I was just using the iC Acadame template...but no other addons or modules (except whatever may come with the Acadame template), and certainly no SEO modules either which I know can cause install problems .

Before I uploaded the module, I changed every incidence of the YOUR_TEMPLATE folders to the name of the iC Acadame template...I also made sure this was the same name that is in the template_info.php file as well.

I possibly could have done something wrong...but their also could be a bug or problem with this module, zen cart, the language files, etc. Because the error message inside the Tools/Send Email said something about collation of languages or something.

I don't know whats up...still at square one. I hope we can get this sorted.

I have un-installed zen cart from my server, as I plan on using a different template on Thursday 12/2 and would like to do a fresh install anyway. (I didn't like the iC Acadame template anyway.) I have already downloaded v.1.3.9h to my local, and can install it to my server straight from my PC if you wish on thursday.

Then I can install the new template I will be getting...and THEN try another install of the Newsletter Subscription Module along with the newest version of ZC uploaded from my PC rather than installed from within my host, and using the new template.

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

I just noticed in the "read me" for this newsletter module, that paragraph #6 says:

"Change the permissions setting for the following to 777:
includes/languages/english/html_includes/YOUR_TEMPLATE/define_subscribe.php
includes/languages/english/html_includes/YOUR_TEMPLATE/define_unsubscribe.php
(Note! for security, after you have these configured the way you like, set permissions to 644."

I did not do this last time I uploaded this module...and I did change a few lines of text in the above define_subscribe.php and define_unsubscribe.php files BEFORE I uploaded the module to zen cart. I should have uploaded these files first, then changed the permissions, THEN made the text changes to the files.

This is probably what threw things out of whack before. Any thoughts?

I am going to upload v.1.3.9h to the server tonight, then upload my new template...THEN upload this newsletter module again...and see if it works right this time.

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

I am still having trouble with this newsletter subscription module. I am using v1.3.9g

I have already read through about all of the almost 100 page forum devoted to this newsletter module (and a 100 page forum tells you this may not be a quality module)

I did change every instance of the "YOUR_TEMPLATE" folders to the same name of my own template that I'm using.

So that can't be the issue. I did upload it to the zen cart root directory...so that isn't the issue.

I followed the 'read me' file to the letter. Each step in order. There is NO reason why this newsletter module shouldn't be working...if it is quality that is.

Who on here has downloaded that newsletter subscription module and is actually using it successfully?? I would like to hear from you, do you really exist? How did you get it working? This is the module i I'm talking about:

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

Hi - I just downloaded it and it installed really successfully. It was actually one of the easiest installs I have done.

My site is at gotvapes com if you want to see it in action. I also dug into the subscribe page and created a link to it on the top of my home page with my own customized text. The only thing I am not happy with is on my direct subscribe page there is too much space between the last line of my subscribe page. to the input field for the email address and I can't at the moment find the reason.

I did make a mistake though and that was not changing all of my YOUR_TEMPLATE instances to the name of my template. In the read me it says change the name of the subdirectory. For future updates on the readme I suggest possibly changing that wording to subdirectories or subdirectory(s) as there are alot of them to change. Maybe even give a listing of them.

Anyway when you do your upload make sure: you change the name of your admin folder on the local side to same name you call it on the server side. don't open any of the directories before transferring from local--> server, just click the file and press send to upload it to your server (or however your FTP software does it).

Hope this helps...its a great thing to have and I am not sure why this functionality is not built into Zen Cart by default.

Yeah, I don't know why a few things aren't already built into Zen Cart, but oh well, glad to have Zen Cart at least...I do love it over all and have been having some fun messing around with it the last few days. Of course sometimes it is frustrating as hell, but still fun and interesting.

As for the Newsletter Subscription Module...I got everything to work except for the AdminPanel/Tools/Send Email part. There I am still showing a database collation problem. But I guess I don't need to use Tools/Send Email to send emails to subscribers anyway.

Everything else about this module seems to work well though; people are still able to subscribe using the module, and all of the automated emails (subscribe/unsubscribe confirmation messages, etc) all work correctly. So I guess I can still use this module in spite of the admin/tools/send email collation issue.

I did change every instance of YOUR_TEMPLATE before uploading as well. Thanks for your input and you have a nice site. Looks like you use the same template I do...premium9a right?

SAY....I gotta another question for you....I can't get my Best Sellers sidebox to show up on this template. I have turned on the left/right column, and have turned off the single column, sort order.I have done everything, but it won't show up. I know you aren't using the Best Sellers sidebox either but maybe you have an idea?

Re: Need newsletter subscription form on EVERY page

Yes - I use Premium9a - great basic template that you can build from and make it your own. As far as BestSellers I had it up at one point but at this point I don't want it up there until sales start to be regular. Did you do some sample sales?

One of the things I want to do is create spotlight features, providing more sales info on 4-5 featured instead of just the straight featured rows...but need to look into the best way of doign it without too much of a hack that can't be updated easily....

Yeah I noticed elsewhere on the forum that you have to have some sales before the best seller sidebox will show up. So I'll worry with that later.

Hope you can get your featured thing sorted. I wish you well with your site.

Did you edit the php file directly? Not from admin/tools/define pages....correct?

Hi--since it only goes on main page (my spotlight section) I used define pages and coded it into the main page...
