That is not a magic one-size-fits-all solution, or I would have told you to do that.
But, if it gives you all the results you need for your unique situation, feel free to test it exhaustively to be satisfied that it's complete, and run with it.

IMO it would probably be a better expenditure of time and energy working on upgrading your site to 1.5 and testing to confirm that that problem is resolved for you, and proceding accordingly.

If your problem is indeed the same, then upgrading would be your best approach.
