EXCEL Populate [Support]

I've been testing this out on a test store with three products. I have one small problem and one large problem. The small problem is that when I generate an excel file, I can't just click on it to download, I get a "You don't have permission to access" & "Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."
I can get around that by going through cpanel directly to my admin/temp folder and downloading it there.

The big problem is that I'm not getting all the info in my excel sheet. I have three products, each in a different category. All have the same manufacturer, and one has two simple attributes, black & orange. When I generate a product sheet, I get three tabs, Products, Categories and Manufacturers. Nowhere can I find the attribute info. When I go to generate the file, I have options to include Categories and Manufacturers but nothing about attributes. How do I get this info included?

BillyBoyle:

Fantastic installed on second attempt. The first was my bad, you know how sometimes you think you know what you just read...

Did get one little error message up in excel said on opening the file. pop-up window saying

File error: data may have been lost.

Hi BillyBoyle may I ask if you managed to sort the error message out and if so how did you fix it? As I am getting the exact same error message.

Thanks.

Did you CHMOD the temp directory in your admin directory to 777?

Sorry for non-reply - No I didn't get it sorted but you probably worked that out yourself. Think it was a parser error from server (Apache) to PC operating system.

To be honest I stopped using the mod as it isn't ZC v1.5 compatible, I only run with about 80 - 90 products and few of them change.

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

Just wondering if it's safe to try this Add-on Excel Populate. It appears to be questionable considering the comments but their is a recent update (30 Jul 2012) so hoping these errors are fixed. I'm using v1.3.9. All I need it for is to export products.

Ditto: Is "Excel Populate" now ok to use with Zen Cart 1.5?

Also... why am I finding it impossible to download add-ons? Every time I try I get the error "Slow Down! You are trying to download files too quickly. You must wait 37 seconds before you may download another file." but fact is it is first time in days I tried. Tried IE, Chrome, and Firefox. Also tried right-click and save link as, all to no avail.

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

I was using Excel 2010 and it kept reporting errors in the sheet so I reverted back to Excel 2003 and it does NOT report any errors on the sheet but I get the following when I try to populate:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.mywebsite.com/zen-cart/z3n,5t/excel.php?action=populate&filename=products_20120902193130.xls. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

Really could use some help! Thanks.

I am gettings the same error when I upload, but what is worse is when I upload it says that one of my ids does not have a manufactor with it and corrupts the item. If I remove the one that is says there is an error with, is just damages the next item in the line. The products disappear from categories/products and from Quick updates shows that there is an "Invalid master! " Right now I am unable to use this program for uploads, but can basically backup my products

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

Hello.
I'm not sure - can I just ask support related questions in this thread?
I hope so :)

I've installed Excel Populate for Zen Cart, but I'm having trouble actually populating my site with it.
I've been able to edit items, but can't seem to add new products.
I'm testing with a single item, when I populate, it goes to white screen with the message "WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again." - refresh results in the same screen. If I hit back - i get two lines at the top of the Zen Cart page: "Products populated" &
"Products sheet: wrong manufacturers name for product with id=186".
I've changed the manufacturers id - tried everything, but it won't actually insert a new product.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Amber

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

temp is 777 and zen cart is 1.5.1 , Excel Populate is 1.0.2
I generated a file with one product which works well.
I changed the file's name ,uploaded it, and did 'Populate from file'.
The error happened.

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://com.myozshop.com/myadmin/excel.php?action=populate&filename=products_2012091918.xls. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

I've been fiddling about with this for a week or so.
I did generate some files, found them, downloaded and they did not open properly.

Then it just stopped working and would not generate files.

As I have several add-ons I have just created a totally fresh zencart shop on another domain and downloaded just this add-on to see if there is a clash somewhere.

Still won't generate a file.

I get the following error message:

[01-Oct-2012 15:51:05] PHP Warning: tempnam() [<a href='function.tempnam'>function.tempnam</a>]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File() is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/:/usr/lib/php/:/usr/local/lib/php/:/usr/share/php/:/tmp:/usr/local/apache/htdocs/) in /home/z26plas/public_html/zencart/tony/includes/excel/OLE/PPS/File.php on line 87

The worry about this whole thread is that there seem to be many people finding problems but not many saying "Super - works now". Which is not very encouraging.

Should I persevere or give up?

Thanks
Tony

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

Seems I'm having the same issues as others in the past. Could someone please give me some information on what they did to solve the problem.
I have output my catalogue into excel I have made some alterations and when I try to populate the file back into Zen Cart I get the following message:
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.bnesupplies.com.au/myadmin/excel.php?action=populate&filename=products_1.xls. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
How do I get it to input the spreadsheets. I really don't want to have to sit here and enter things in one at a time.

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

I can't help you with your problems, because I do not know this mod, but I think it will be easier to use some other populate mod. The original author has not been around for almost 2 years, and the person who updated this mod has been online only once.
Maybe someone will step up to update and support this mod, but until then I recommend using easy populate

Re: EXCEL Populate [Support]

IS this product still being supported?
I am running the os64 version?:

I too am having errors.

  1. The exported xl file is showing errors when I open it with Excel
  2. after changing the exported files to reflect 2 new product adds / 1 product deletion / 3 product changes.
I upload and all appears ok until I populate then I receive the white page with this error "WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again."
If I go back to the zcart admin page I see this error :
    Products populated
Products sheet: wrong manufacturers name for product with id=7
and no changes took .. in the database.

I have 12,000 products to import.. so I really need this to work.. let us know something.. as I appear to not be the only one

Thanks

You should see the file name listed on that page, click the name and it should download.

I went through the first 5 pages of this forum and didn't see anyone that got this to work. I just tried and it didn't work and it is a little clunky to work with the excel file.

I managed to download a catalog which looked great. When I added 3 items and tried to upload the products I had to rename the _64bit folder to just 'excel' anddelete the old 'excel' folder because I'm on a 64bit operating sys. that got the import working. Then I lost one product and didn't gain any. I think I'll just try another.
