U.K Based VAT Invoice Order

OK , I have taken a few days out to read the forum , asked a few questions , but there does not seem to be a difinitive answer.

On our Invoices and Order Confirmation we NEED to have.

Sub-Total Ex VAT :
Shipping Ex VAT :
VAT :
TOTAL :

It does not seem that difficult but I am unable to hack it together
Therefore if there is not already an answer to this I am going to open it up for a better programmer than me to take a look.

Unless I'm barking up the wrong tree you simply goto Modules/Order Total in admin and set the ex VAT and total orders there. Seems to work OK for us.

I'm concerned more, however, about displaying and printing the VAT summary which is what we are supposed to do now.

We're going round in circles too on this one CrazyCucumber. Any VAT inspector would have a fit if he saw the current invoice presentation. As my sales increase I get more and more queries about why have I been charged VAT twice..... The current presenation is not correct. It may well be another reason for abandoned carts at checkout.....

Forgot to mention that we use the display prices with and without tax mod which makes live much easier at the checkout stage

I'm just setting up Zen for the first time for a customer here in the UK. Can you explain what the problem is with the way Zen outputs VAT? Did any of you come up with an answer?

The problem is that in its standard form Zen Cart will display prices either with or without tax. If you elect to display with tax (VAT) then at the checkout and on the printed invoice you end up with something like:

Subtotal (inc VAT)
Shipping (inc VAT)
VAT
Total (inc VAT)

The total is correct but it is all very confusing and is not the correct layout as far as the VAT man is concerned.

If you elect to display prices without VAT then the totals will be displayed correctly but your customers would probably prefer to see the prices in the shop displayed with VAT.

The solution is to install this mod http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=848 which enables prices to be displayed both with and without tax. Selecting the exc/inc option in MyStore/display prices with tax will then allow you to set up the totals correctly at the checkout and invoice

I'm also confused as to why I've set it to include VAT, but it doesn't appear to show it?

You need to try larger amounts. 20 per cent of 0.02 is 0.004 which to two decimal places is zero
