Category based shipping rules

Most of my products include free shipping, but I have one category that need shipping based upon order total. Two problems that I have are 1) Order total needs to be at least $250 before shipping and 2) Orders between $250 and $600 - $30 shipping charge; $601 - $999 - $50; above $1,000 - Free Shipping.

Is this possible?

When you say in 1 that the total needs to be $250 before shipping, do you mean free shipping on orders less than $250 or do you mean no checkout on orders less than $250?

If no checkout on orders less than $250, then there is an add on in the Free Software Add Ons, if I am not mistaken, for Minimum Order ...

For the 2nd part, are the Products with Free Shipping marked as Always Free Shipping?

If so, you could then use the Table Rate table shipping module based on Price and set it up for your shipping ... the Products marked as Always Free Shipping will have the Price reduced from the Order Total to use in the calculation of the shipping charges ...

1. The order total minimum is $250. They can combine any of the products in the category to come up with the minimum.

For 2) the products outside this category are free shipping and marked as always free shipping. Within this category it will be free shipping if the order total of the products in category is above $1,000 once again the products can be combined within the category to reach the $1,000

Linda I believe this sums it up:

If category = 1
Minimum order = $250

If category = 1 and ordertotal > 250 and ordertotal < 600
Shipping = $30
Else
If category = 1 and ordertotal > 600 and ordertotal < 999
Shipping = 50
Else
If category = 1 and ordertotal > 1000
Shipping = 0

No idea how to code this or if there is an addon that would do this

So the minimum $250.00 is for Products in Category 1 not for the whole Order being $250.00 ... correct?

You could probably customize the Minimum Order add on to only look at the Products from this Category to verify that these Products are $250.00 or more ...

So the Minimum Order customized to only look at Products in Category 1 manages if checkout is allowed ...

Table Rate table manages what the charges for shipping should be (Free Shipping Products will have their Price removed from the Calculation automatically)

Again, the Free Shipping Products should manage themselves on the shipping ... and unless the Category 1 Products are in the cart, all should be fine ...

So, your tasks are:

1 setup Table Rate table for Category 1 shipping

2 install the FREE SHIPPING freeshipper to manage a cart of only Always Free Shipping Products

3 Install the Minimum Order add on and customize it further for managing just the Category 1 Products when in the cart

Linda, in reviewing my products I have another category that does not have free shipping. Is there a way to create different shipping tables for different categories. It also has a different minimum to purchase. Is there a way to create different minimums for different products.

Basically, I am a distributor for various companies and each company sets its own free shipping rules and minimums.

What happens on mixed orders when multiple categories are purchased at the same time? :unsure:

Multiple categories in extremely rare. I offer fundraising products so typically a group is going to have a category specific fundraiser.

This sounds exactly the sort of thing I need for my client - any chance you could give me a pointer as to what you mean 'clone the Table Rate table for each categories_id' - I cant see any of mention of categories at all in the current Table Rate module!

Cloning a shipping module means to make a copy similar to one that you want to use for shipping but to alter the variables/constants in that file so that you make a unique file that you can customize for more specific functionality ...

If you do a search on the Tutorials/FAQs and the Forum for:
clone shipping
clone flat
clone item
clone table

you should find a number of examples on how to do this ...
