need ideas to balance UPS shipping

I know there is no easy solution to this but the problem I am having is that for some of my products I use several drop shippers which are of course located all over so my shipping that gets charged is almost always off.

For example on my last order it was to be shipped to Texas which is also where I and my store are located so ZC charged 13.49 for shipping. Well my drop shipper for that particular product is located in California so the actual shipping was 17.98. I know with this set-up it will never be perfect but is there any way to at least get it a bit closer?

With that disparity, buying a module that might square this is a bargin

Google for zencart advanced shipper

Many have reported excellent results with it

If you can't spend the dollars on the module you might try the solution I used on another website. I used a drop shipper with multiple locations around the country and never knew where the product would ship from. The solution, which wasn't perfect was to use a zip code that was in the geographic center of the UPS world in the USA. I think it was Dillon, MT. Shipping calculated was never right but on average it worked out.
