Cant get image to appear

I have tried using the tutorials and using W3schools to get my code right but for some reason i am unable too.
I am using 1.3.9g zencart. What i want to do is place a image in white space in image:
I am using the code here.

Can someone tell me where i am making my mistake. I am placing this line of code in the footer on the css file as tutorials say too.

I'm sorry but that didn't make much sense to me. Are you trying to create a white space into which you place an image, or are you trying to load an image showing white space?

FYI self closing tags often fail W3C Validation. So I'd try:

Sorry... i am seeing double here... I am trying to place an image(globalgateway.gif) at the location of the white space on the picture i uploaded. The white space is to just show the location of the gif. Sorry for not being more clear. I just seem to be unable to make it go where i want it nor will it show up on page.

If you want to place an image in the footer then why not use the Banner Manager? That will call in this code in includes/templates/tamplate_default/common/tpl_footer.php

See you just went over my head. I am all new to this and now i am lost big time. I thought that you used the css stylesheet to place images into the template ? Can you explain this in more detail ? Thank you.

I'm afraid it's not possible to give a one-on-one talk through on everything you need to know in order to run a Zen Cart site. However, there is the "Tutorials/FAQs" section (link at top of page) which will provide all of the info you need to know. It's a mine of useful information.
