Migrate an existing mysql

We are thinking of throw our old home built web shop and use Zencart instead. We already have a mysql database with our products. Is is possible to transfer that data in to zencart? In which of all tables should we import all the data to? Is it safer to export it to excel and use easy populate excel thingy to transfer the data?

Only is this data is first translated/converted into the structure that ZenCart requires

This might be the easiest way once you understand easy populate
There is a wiki article on how to use it

Re: Migrate an existing mysql

The database is far too complex for a novice to start importing data from other (incompatible) databases.

If it is just product-related data you are looking to export-import, then Easy Populate is the answer.

Easy Populate will bring in your product data, manufacturer data, categories hierarchy, pricing data and various bits of meta data.

You may need to "tweak" Easy Populate first to give you more scope. (SEE: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116061)

You should use version 1.2.5.4 of Easy Populate. (Several people are working on new versions, but for now, version 1.2.5.4 is the most stable)

I wrote a WIKI tutorial on Easy Populate: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate

Re: Migrate an existing mysql

Well I have spent some hours now to understand how Zencart is working. It will demand a huge, not ordinary huge but a large huge amount of effort to make it work with books.

The largest problem is that is no easy way to create new product types and edit their titles.

What versions of ZenCart are you using?

Found it http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35389

What versions of ZenCart are you using?

I installed the 1.3.9 manually instead for the web hotel hosted version.

Thanks for the help :D

Re: Migrate an existing mysql

Paul Hailey has a book product module, based on Moku's module, and you can collect it here.

http://www.jphuk.co.uk/zc/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&cPath=54&products_id=490
(click on "Download this file" when you reach his site)

It takes a bit of know-how to set it up, and you can see a basic DEMO of it HERE

Re: Migrate an existing mysql

I have to have an another version of the homepage. Under Free Software Add Ons is no such thing as Archive... I am sry if I am making you angry but I have searched the whole site now and cant find it.

Under Free Software add ons is a directory with Product types and there is just six projects and none of them contains what I am looking for...

There is a small link to older contributions also but I haven't found anything there either.

Been searching the forum over and over again with different keywords but just getting old dead links.

Re: Migrate an existing mysql

Wow there is everything and a little bit more :)

Can't make it work yet thou. I dosen't understand the zencart language yet.

A new freshly (3:rd to day) installed zencart and every thing seems fine. The zc_install folder deleted and admin folder changed to admin1 (just testing yet).

Now the tricky part starts.
The installation text for the V4 Book Mulitilanguage Product Type for V1.3.8 says

"Upload the main book files files in \catalogue to your zencart."

I assume that means /zencart.mydomain.se/public_html/catalogue and not manually putting the files in the different folders... or?

When I installed zencart I changed the admin folder to admin1 and in the configure.php also but that change dosen't inflict with V4 Book M... ADMIN_PATCH_SQL_EXTENDED_BOOK_TYPE_V4.txt file in any way... or?

The problem is when I am trying to add a product and choosing product_book it can't find the file in the admin folder... but I was forced to change the name admin to admin1... so obvious I have done something wrong, major wrong.

I take it you have the module expanded on your pc

Look at the folder structure and I suppose that it has an admin folder named admin

I also suppose that using FTP your transferred the the contents in one transfer letting the FTP over write and create

Now check on your server, you have a folder named admin1, do you also have one named admin now?

If so delete it

On your local rename the modules admin folder to admin1 and re upload that folder so that it's contents end up in your admin1 folder

You should now see it when you are in the admin
