Upgrade from v1.3.9d to v1.3.9h from standard template

Hi All,

I have been using Zen Cart for about 2 months, and would like to update the version I am using.

I am using the standard zen cart template, and know that I will lose all my settings if I upgrade whilst I have this.

Therefore, I would like to know if there is a way to make the template I am using into a custom one, so I can perform the upgrade? I like the design I have created from the standard template, and would like to continue to use it.

I assume that you mean classic and also assume that ALL your customizations have been to copies of core files placed into the many classic folders or the override system

If that is the case then you copy all the files in includes/templates/classic to another folder named for your template
Edit the copied template_info.php files and change the template name to yours and save & upload

Then do the same copy of all other classic folders to folders named for your template

In admin first make a note of your layout box controller settings

Then admin > tools > template selection > select your new template name and make it active

admin > tools > layout box controller > reset

Then restore the setting/box placement noted earlier

Now you can upgrade without losing your customizations

If you did not follow the template override system post back as all is not lost just harder

I don't think I used an overide, but if do it the hard way also, I would be covered......I hope.

The hard way is to

Get a fresh distribution of the version you are using currently and expand it locally

Get a local copy of all the files on your server

Use a file diff application like beyond compare or winmerge and run run a diff betewwn the 2 file sets

This will show the files that are different and what the differences are

You will locate the files you have altered and can move them locally to a template override folder

Collect these and transfer the override folders to your server

kobra has helped so many of us thru the upgrade - once you get the override system properly in place a classic template is fairly easy to convert to your custominzed adjustments - it is just a matter of uploading all the changed override folders and reconfiguring your modules and addons to a fresh install of the upgrade.
So you can see the overrides system these brillant designers have built into the system is very important.

I would get your site adjusted to the override system for easier upgrades in the future.

I make notes of most of my changes to my site in a hardcopy binder.
