Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

I am sorry if this has been addressed but I couldn't find anything.

I am new with Z Cart and just trying to set things up.

I have a G Daddy Host account
Z Cart Ver 1.3.9h (says latest ver)

I have installed a custom template from the Z cart site. The template is Avignon.

I started setting things up and it looked like things were going fine.
I used the ez page editor (html editor) and it seemed to take the changes and delete text as it is intended.

Now when I try to update or change any text it does not work.
It looks like it makes the change and I see no error messages, the changes just don't save.

I have tried other pages and it looks like I can only change things one time and than nothing.

Any suggestions or tips?

thank you very much

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

Do you mean EZ pages or define pages (or both) ?

If define pages, make sure you're editing the right files. They should be in the includes/languages/english/html_includes/avignon folder.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

Thanks for the fast reply.

It seems to be in the define pages editor. I have not created any new pages yet.

I thought the files were set up correctly for editing as I could change them but only one time.

Thanks again.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

If it worked once it should work again. Check the files in that folder using your FTP program to make sure the permissions are still set as writeable (at least 644).

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

Ok, I have narrowed things down. For some reason in the define page editor it defaults back to the original file (D:\Hosting\6772379\html\zencart/includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_main_page.php)

I was able to change templates and edit the main page in a new template but again only one time.

How do I change the text editor to edit the files in the new template without going back to the default pages?

Thank you very much.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

If the folder includes/languages/english/html_includes/avignon doesn't exist, you'll need to create it and copy all the define page files into it. Then your define pages editor will default to those files (assuming you've selected that template in admin).

Failing that, a link to your site might help us spot something.

It sounds like you may have edited the default files, then installed your custom template.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

I really appreciate the time you are spending with me.

I tried copying the files from the main (html_includes) folder to the new (avignon) folder I created. Now I can not see them in the text editor.

Here is my site address.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

Not sure what I did now but I can't seem to go to any other page but the home page now.

No matter what link I hit it only shows the home page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

You might have turned the shop to maintenance mode.

I'm installing the new version 1.3.9h - have been running earlier versions of zencart for some years now and some familiar problems concern the define pages editor. The default template in Tools > Template selection is "Classic" but in the folder structure for Languages > English > html_includes fall the default pages editable through the control panel. These pages do not exist in the html_includes > Classic folder. So i guess what i am recalling is that i need to duplicate the html_includes folder contents into the Languages > English > html_includes > Classic folder.

What i dont' get is why the admin is pulling up a file to edit, letting me save my changes and defaulting to an unedited file.

Re: Html editor only worked once. Now nothing

Just to clarify my issues and post i see concerning this...

I'm on a windows server that only lets me change the folder permissions...not the individual file permission. After running the installation or modifying the configure files and changing the Includes folder back...it sets back the permissions of all the folders below...including html_includes. This results in not being able to edit with the Define Pages Editor because the files are not writable.

So ...back to my control panel and back to the html_includes folder to reset permissions to writable. I find that in my case, the guys at tech support are willing to field these phone calls for help with individual files for free rather than give full freedom through my control panel. They hum and haw like it is a glitch but it isn't...they just don't want to risk unwarranted hacking that would affect the sever. I've been with them ten years and they are always there to help and are not in India, except on weekends ;)
