Problem upgarding from 1.3.8a to 1.3.9(h)

Is there an easy way to upgrade from 1.3.8a to 1.3.9(h) without loosing one's setting. I did an upgrade and I lost my custom setting, surely there must be a better way to make it easier to upgrade without loosing your old setting. Usually when you do an upgrade to a newer version all the setting remains intact except the newer patch. With all you GEEKS out there surely you should have thought about this problem.

There must someone in the community who can possibly sort this minor problem and make any future upgrade fool proof.

You can upgrade without losing your settings (assuming you've created your custom template) by closely following all the upgrade instructions.

Geek or not, my many years in the IT support business has proven to me that as soon as you make something foolproof, a better fool will appear.

I am using default Template, is there a quick way of upgrading i.e which template can I copy over once I have done the update? After I did the update I get the default icon and congratulation pages instead my shop logo, but all my products is there?
