so much messed up, please help

Please feel free to PM me to discuss this further or e-mail. And if I posted this in the wrong section, feel free to move it to the right section. I want to learn how to do this, and know what I did wrong. If you can teach me, I will be very appreciative. I have even been reading the manual. Lots of reading, but so far all the steps, that I at least understand, are being followed.

I have searched everywhere both on this forum and on the index.txt file, but I cannot figure out what I did wrong.

I am presently using: v1.3.9h (current)

Followed index.txt to get the same look.

My problems are....

1. **the prices are missing, it says to call. I didn't select that option. **
   I checked all the obvious options and yet nothing has worked in changing it. I can send anyone Print Screens for each of my sections if needed. Should be done by e-mail though.

2. **Buy it/ Order it Now button is missing.
   **
   I am assuming that since there is no price that this part isn't working.

3. **A quantity box is missing for people to choose how many they want to order. **
   This is confusing. There are so many QTY options everywhere. I know there are QTY sections for how many are in stock. And then there are QTY on how many the customer would like to order. I figured out the inventory QTY, but where is the option for someone to choose more than one of the same item?

4. I do not want to show the quantity of what is stock all the time, is there a way to override this for some or all products?
   Is this possible?

5. Can shipping be set up by how much a person orders, not by weight, not by item count, but by how much MONEY they are about to spend.

Or maybe it would be best to go by weight, which is fine too. I am not really sure how to do this shipping. Do you need a special account with the postoffice? Someone told me they did their shipping prices by weight with the USPS, and somehow linked to that. Do you know how to do this please?

6. How do I set up so only CT residents get charged taxes?

7. How do I make it so no one can place an order unless they are 18 yrs or older?

I have been searching this forum high and low, and I cannot find an answer directly to any of mine.

1. Admin - Configuration - My Store - Store Status is probably set to** 2**. Should be 0.

2. Admin - Configuration - Product Listing - Display Product Price/Add to Cart (probably).

3. Admin - Catalog - Product Types - Edit Layout - Show Quantity in Stock

5 & 6. Read through the Tutorials/FAQ section, especially those articles which deal with shipping.

7. You can't, really. You can make visitors confirm that they are over 18, but there's no way to know if they're lying. I wouldn't worry about it.

5. Admin > Modules > Shipping > Zone Rates > install and select to calculate by total.

1,2 and 3 are all related. There are several places where store status or customer shopping status are set in various ways. I don't have time to locate them all right now.

6. If all of CT is one tax zone [consider yourself lucky, says a New Yorker:)], the basic tax zone definition and rate method should be all you need. Make CT one zone... search the forum for "tax zone definition" for full discussions.

7. There is no way to ensure that an online customer is over 18; all you can do is ensure that they say they are. Again, there have been discussions of checking the date of birth that can be required at signup to verify that it is at least 18 years ago. You can also reinforce this by making them record acceptance of your terms, in Configuration > Regulations > Confirm Terms and Conditions During Checkout Procedure.

OK I have prices, Add to Cart Button, Buy it Now button, QTY selection is showing. Halfway there. Now to work on shipping and taxes. Any other ideas, send them my way. I am putting in weights for all product, since I do not know how I am going to do the shipping yet.
