Error with godaddy hosted cart. help needed.

Hi,
A couple of days ago, my pages were taking up tp 40 seconds to load. I am running the latest zencart which is hosted with godaddy
For the last 2 days, I cannot access site with browser (ie8).
I now get firefox error: **The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.**

and ie8 error: **Fatal error: Call to undefined function zen_check_url_get_terms() in /home/content/86/7072686/html/index.php on line 59
**

I have now disabled the forwarding as this was added prior to site going down. Godaddy support just keep asking for what my ftp program and browser is.

I would appreciate any help with checking site from external location, as godaddy diagnostics say site is accessible.

Sorry, I am new to this, what do you mean ? I have found out that godaddy has a bad rep for hosting zencart, but what does your Quote mean ?
If problems persist, I may have to change hosts. :(

Re: Error with godaddy hosted cart. help needed.

Rule one: Don't host with goDaddy. They are notoriously useless for sophisticated sites. You will have endless problems, so cut your losses and find a proper host.

I work on scores of sites - hosted in many places. These are the hosts to AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE:

GoDaddy
Dreamhosts
1and1
Fasthosts
Easyspace
... and anything that promotes itself as being "cheapest" or "free".

eCommerce is very sophisticated stuff, and requires servers to be set up in specific ways, and to have components available that can cost the hosting company extra money to install.

If you plan to do online selling seriously (as opposed to just doing it as a hobby) then you need to make the commitment to host the site with a company that not only understands eCommerce and has the correct configurations, but who is knowledgeable enough to give you proper support.

These hosts will cost a bit more, but are well worth it, because the money you will save down the line will be considerable.

Dump that useless host while you still have time. If they won't refund you, then just write it off to experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I hear what you are saying and will consider it seriously.
I have another site hosted with Redstation, and they have always seemed good, however the site isnt complicated or e-commerce. Do you have any experience or knowledge of Redstation ?
What should I look for with a good host ?

What should I look for with a good host ?

For a personal web hosting account, I usually seek for:

  1. 24/7 customer phone service and/or prompt email ticket response, and solid support forums.

  2. Full-control over your account. FTP, Database, Terminal.

  3. Speed.

Price should range between $7~$25 depending on what you want it to do.

If you want a balanced website hosting company, go with what schoolboy said in the previous post  You can't go wrong. If you do, post it here.

Re: Error with godaddy hosted cart. help needed.

...back to the original problem.

If I go straight to trademonkey.co.uk/zencart then I get a "cannot connect to database" error.

If I go to trademonkey.co.uk then I get the following error: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function zen_check_url_get_terms() in /home/content/86/7072686/html/index.php on line 59" - which indicates that it's looking in the root for that file and not in a folder called "zencart".

Have you moved your site from the root to a folder without updating the configure.php files?

The database error also indicates that either the database name, mySQL user name or password, or a combination of all 3, are incorrect in your configure.php files.

A couple of days ago, my pages were taking up tp 40 seconds to load

GoDaddy and any "bucket shop" hosting company will pack their servers to the limits and beyond with websites and this will cause slow load times. Additionally you are UK based and their servers are in the USA, so every time a UK customer requests a page from your site the request has to go all the way to the USA and back again.

The only changes I made prior to it going down was to set up a redirect from trademonkey.co.uk/zencart to trademonkey.co.uk but I have since cancelled this, but site still not available.

Thanks for confirming that the results I get are the same for others.

Were will I find the configure.php file ? I can upload a back up to try.

Re: Error with godaddy hosted cart. help needed.

OK Folks..Its sorted..

And whats more Godaddy support were useless. I fixed it myself. :D

I had changed the database password through the control panel, but it didnt change the configure.php file which had the old password in.

Thanks to Vger for pointing me in the right direction.

Now off to consider a change to eukhost for my hosting before I build anymore into my site/cart.

Thanks again.
