Completely lost on editing and updates

:frusty:I an trying to remove or edit the top banner on my site. I have read the instructions on the tutorial page and nothing I have done has worked.

Do I need to upgrade since I am still using ZenCart v1.3.7. I even looked on the instructions on how to do that and I do not know how to do the backup and get to any files other than what's on my admin pages.

Unfortunately, the person who helped create the site for me is no longer available so I'm stuck doing this on my own. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! :frusty:

First, yes you need to upgrade. V1.3.7 is no longer secure and you could get hacked at any time.
How much customization do you have to your site?

The tutorial will work if followed correctly and if your template has not disabled some function involved. We can't tell you what your problem is from here. Where did your template come from?

Other than HTML on my pages and editing on my items, there has been no other customization.

I don't know where the template came from. It was something created by the person who did it for me.

You don't really need to know much about PHP and SQL to install and maintain a Zencart site, but you do need to know how to access your hosting account's control panel and how to use FTP (both pretty simple). Can you do those things ?

I have accessed my account's control panel. I did not have an FTP but I just downloaded one. So I'm not sure yet how to use the FTP.

Pretty simple. All FTP does is transfer files from your local computer to your hosting server and back. Most have two panes on the screen. One is the folder/file directory on your local computer, and the other the folder/file directory on the hosting server. It just a matter of dragging and dropping files from one to the other.

I'm trying this again. I am trying to do one of the following:

1. Remove my header from my site because the phone number on it is no longer in service.

or

2. Edit that header so I can put our active phone number in the header. Also, if I have to make a new header how do I do so?

My information about my Zen Cart is in earlier posts in this thread. My site is QualityMasonicRings.com any help would be appreciated.

   Simple:
   a. right-click on that "header" image and choose "open image in new tab" or some equivalent from the menu that appears.
   b. there you'll see that the URL for that image is: http://www.qualitymasonicrings.com/includes/templates/gloss_black/images/logo.bmp
   c. thus the actual image file to change is located on your server at: /includes/templates/gloss_black/images/logo.bmp
   d. use your image-editing program to edit that file, or to create a new one of the same size dimensions, and save it with the same filename
   e. upload the new image to your server, to replace the file that was up there previously

As stevesh told you in previous posts, one normally uses an FTP program for that.
If you can't use FTP, you could optionally resort to using your hosting company's File Manager app to locate and upload the replacement.
