20% VAT rate rounding up

Hello

I have a problem where the 20% vat is causing prices to round up causing some prices to be a penny out.

UK store, all prices shown with vat.

Vat was 17.5% before so all I have done is amend the store vat rate to 20% - however when I have amended a few prices I am having the following issue

The gross price is for example £7.95
zencart works the net price to be £6.6250
price displayed on the store is £7.96

Totally stuck - but need to resolved this asap as prices advertised are not correct.

Sorry meant to say this only happens on some prices but not others - for example £3.95 shows ok but £4.95 shows as £4.96, £12.95 shows ok, but £34.95 shows as £34.96 etc....

Any help appreciated - and beer/coffee bought.

Re: 20% VAT rate rounding up

Search the forums for rounding tax*. There were some rounding errors in version 1.3.8 that have been fixed in the latest version (1.3.9h).

Re: 20% VAT rate rounding up

The solution seems to be to upgrade to the latest version as the looks like the wee tax 1p glitch is now been resolved - sods law - if the vat rate hadn't changed everything would be fine!

Thanks for the pointers and hints on the correct search term much apprecaited.

Re: 20% VAT rate rounding up

Hello

I have a new site installed (1.39h) and i have checked the new vat rate of 20% on the figures I was having problems with and it is working ok by letting me show prices as 7.95 - which shows as 7.96 on 1.38

If I find anything else out I'll give you a shout - I know what its like to be stuck!

Re: 20% VAT rate rounding up

All carts round up to the nearest penny on some prices - they have to.

As one penny is the minimum acceptable currency what happens if you end up with something costing £6.256? It either has to round down to £6.25 or round up to £6.26.

Re: 20% VAT rate rounding up

Vger is right. These problems will occur in any cart under certain circumstances. The laws of Mathematics are pretty well fixed for multiplication.

But the consequences can be avoided by using the latest version of Zen Cart to avoid some specific bugs in earlier versions and not having fractions of a penny in your prices (as doing so will unavoidably cause some combinations of price and quantity to rollover to an extra penny, sometimes more).

In the UK this was sometimes difficult to achieve with a VAT rate of 17.5%, but with 20% it's a doddle.
