HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Just installed the new v1.3.9h on a website that is getting it's first cart. Even with the My Store configuration setting set, the HTML editor does not show when adding a product.

I've been working with v1.3.8a on several sites and the HTML editor shows on those sites in both FF3 and IE8 with no problems ever.

I really need to have this editor working ... any ideas of what is wrong?

I went through a ton of older threads, but most of the solutions did not work, including just deleting the .htaccess file from the editors folder. I've put all files back to original.

I have no add-ons installed yet as I've still working on the layout and design of this install. I'm at the point of adding a product and working on it's layout, but can't if I don't have an HTML editor to use.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Try in tools > define page editor ans select the editor from the drop box first
Stay logged in and see if it also is used for products
If not, there is something wrong in the install

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Yup, did that too, as it was suggested in another thread.

I can't see that the install has gone wrong since this is the ONLY problem I have encountered.

On a hunch, I am re-uploading the whole /editors/ folder to see if maybe something didn't transfer over right ....

That did the trick at least half-way .... the editor now shows in FF3, but not in IE8 (and I did delete cache/temp files/cookies and refreshed and still no).

And the stupid thing is that I need it to work in IE8 because FF has never allowed me to copy/paste things into the Zencart editor (no matter the version of FF or Zencart. I did try altering the Firefox files but that never worked either). As it is with IE, I have to "allow" the paste into the editor, but at least I can do it.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Well, I put the product description text in via IE8, but when I go to the product in FF, the text doesn't show in the editor, so I can't edit it there. However, the text does show when you view the product from the public side.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Now I'm losing product description text. I still only have the first product loading as I'm still messing with the product display template, but the description is not even in the admin.

The product title and model number also disappear when I go back to them (in admin, and thusly on the public side as well).

I have never seen this problem before with all the Zencart installs I have done.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Update: Yup, I can just add the product title and description. Save it as per usual. Then go back to make a change and the title, model number, and description are all wiped out.

What is causing this????

The 1.3.9h install didn't seem truly any different from the v1.3.8a that I've done numerous times ... and I'm on the same server that I've done for all the other installs, so it can't be a server issue.

Oh, and it doesn't matter which browser - FireFox or IE - the fields go blank in both.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Have installed "h" many times and not seen this issue
My guess is that your have uploaded missing/corrupt files
As a fully clean install runs without issues

Does your hosting account provide cPanel as the account manager?

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Heya

I'll re-upload the files tomorrow (got my cook's hat on right now hehehe).

Our Apache server has Plesk, no Cpanel, but have pretty much the same functions as cPanel.

I've never had this issue with 1.3.8a, that is why I was wondering on about the 9h, as this is my first time installing this version.

Oh, and I checked the error log file just in case - nothing there concerning this issue.

Thanks for trying to help out.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

v 1.3.9h

I too am experiencing the same thing. I'm getting product text I've input disappearing. Example, I'll input the description, click the preview, but then go back to edit the product further and everything has disappeared.

I haven't experienced this before on previous Zen Cart installs.

Anyone else have a solution or cause for this?

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Thanks for your input.

Two things to add if it helps...

  1. Tonight, I installed the FCKEditor and that partially helped as it did retain product description info, but yet it stripped out the product name when I returned back to it from the back button in preview mode. So - I'm wondering if the problem is something else.

  2. When you talk about a "fresh install", are you suggesting a complete Zen Cart install or just the editor folder? I did re-upload the Editor folder prior to installing the FCKEditor on the chance that would help, but no luck.

I'm running (4) Zen-Cart stores and this is the only one I've experienced this with. It's also the only version 1.3.9h I'm running, too. I know enough to be dangerous only. Grrrr!

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Good news!

First of all, this was a fresh install, not an upgrade. But, I did a little further digging in the forums and although it took a couple hours, I did find a fix that solved the problem.

Viewing Post #6 on this thread provided the fix that solved it for me.

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153143

If anyone is having a similar problem with descriptions, product names, or titles disappearing with the HTML editor, take a look at the above link. It may help you.

Thanks Kobra for stepping in and spending some time and consideration to help out!

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

CORRECTION :
This did NOT work. For some reason, I thought it was working, but the product description field still comes up blank after previewing.

I am back to square one.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

That's a reasonable statement. To be honest, until you asked, I didn't think my PHP was that old. I was confident we were at least at 5.

I have other Zen Carts with the same web hosting company and I don't have this issue, so I'll do a little digging about what's being used where.

I'll post my results back here when I know more in the hopes it helps others.

Re: HTML Editor doesn't show in new install

Kobra —

SUCCESS! Perhaps I had to do this on my other stores, but I don't recall. In short, my hosting company allows (as they say) a "choice" between PHP 4, 5, and 6.

To allow PHP 5, I had to add a line to my htaccess file in my "admin" folder:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

I've been working on this for 6 hours to figure it out, so I'll continue to monitor it, but it worked for me. I logged out, logged back in, cleared my cache and tried every form of making sure my admin was returning fresh and "real time" results — and it seems to work just fine. I can't suggest this is a fix for others, though, since there's no way of knowing every individual setup, but hopefully it helps others in some way.
Again, Kobra — MANY thanks! That little guidance got me pointed in the right direction!
