Apply GC without entering Credit Card info?

Is there a method where the customer, who has a Gift Certificate balance, can make their purchase with the Gift Certificate monies and NOT have to add their Credit Card info? If yes, what is the best method? Customer's are confused as to why they need to give up their Credit Card info when they are making a purchase with a gift certificate.

In v1.3.9h ... if I have a Gift Certificate balance of $65.00 and an Order for $52.06 ...

When I get to the checkout_payment page I just enter the amount that I want to use from my Gift Certificate Balance of 52.06 ... or the whole amount ... and the amount needed to be applied to the order is applied ... and I go on the the checkout_confirmation ... without the need to select any Payment method ...

What Payment modules do you have installed? :unsure:

I have one payment module installed:
Authorize.net (AIM)

Whenever a customer uses a gift certificate, even if the amount applied covers the full payment, the credit card fields are required. Did that change in 1.3.9h?

You might try a test install in a test directory with a test database of v1.3.9h and see if this is working for you ...

There have been so many changes since that out of date and buggy version of v1.3.7 that I really cannot pinpoint the source of the problem ...

my issue is that I can't get to the checkout confirmation, because when I try, I get an error message asking me to please enter a payment method.

I've hard coded instructions for customers to use the check/money order option, which will get them through the process and end up with a zero balance (making a check or money order unnecessary), but I'd rather do away with all the excess instruction and have it work as it should.

My payment modules are check/money order, GV, and PayPal Express.

I'm not sure where to start. Suggestions?

I add a product to the cart ...

I click checkout ...

I login (if not already logged in) ...

I pick a shipping method ...

I click Continue ...

I enter an amount in the Applied Balance ...

I hit enter or click continue ...

Now I am on the checkout_confirmation and can just hit continue to complete the order ...

Click by Click:

• Select a product
• Add to cart
• Click Go To Check Out
• Select the shipping method
• Click Continue Checkout
• Acknowledge Terms & Conditions
• Scroll down to Gift Certificate area
• Enter the total in the Apply Amount box
• Hit Enter and/or click Continue Checkout (result is same for both)
• Get Error: "Please select a payment method for your order"
• This makes it impossible to reach the order confirmation page and complete the order.

No debug logs in the cache folder so I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting.

• I am also unable to reproduce the problem on a fresh install of 139h
• My store is an upgrade to 139h from 138a. I can't say if it worked prior to upgrade as I just now got around to testing this functionality.
• Changing to Classic Template has no affect.

I would recheck your files on the server and make sure nothing was missed ...

It almost sounds like something is still out of date ...

Another thing to check is going through all of the Modules for Payment, Shipping and Order Totals and saving the current settings to NotePad then do a REMOVE, INSTALL and reconfigure to ensure all settings are current ...

Thanks Ajeh. I can go through the payment, shipping and OT mods to remove/re-install and re-configure (although I recently did that when I upgraded to 139h).

But in terms of checking my files....I wouldn't know what to look for, so I'd probably have to redo the upgrade.

When I upgraded, I overrode everything from my 138a install, except for what was in my override folders. Then, for changes to files outside of the override system, I did a file compare between my backed up 138a and 139h before incorporating my changes into the 139h files and uploading to the server.

I'm aware there were a few files inside the override system that changed with the upgrade, so I did the same thing with them (file comparison between old and new and incorporated my customizations to the new file and uploaded).

Finally, I went through and deleted all the deprecated files.

I'd rather leave it as it is than go through another upgrade, but I do thank you for your help :smile:

You should also compare the files in v1.3.9h to all of your override files to see if there are any updates that need to be merged into your templates and overrides ...

Software such as Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com can be of great help with this ...

What I did was make a list of all override files that experienced documented changes between each version from 138a and 139h, per all the changelogs. I took that list and compared it (using WinMerge) to a list of my overriden files. I then ran comparisons on any matches.

But your suggestion to compare them all is an excellent one because perhaps I missed something in the process.

Issue Resolved*

The problem (in my case) was caused by the Military Discount mod. I uninstalled it and the checkout now works as expected.

Your tip about it sounding like old code was the culprit is what led me to figure it out. When I upgraded zc to 139h, I was meticulous about making sure customizations were incorporated correctly. The only thing I didn't look at was Mods....and often times they are old and out of date.

Knowing that the problem was occurring during checkout, I figured a good place to start looking was in any mods that affect order totals. Sure enough, that's where I found it :)

I'm having the same problem in 1.3.9a. I'm also finding that even when I go through the entire process, the gift certificate amount is not applied (although the card acknowledges that I've redeemed the certificate).

Will an upgrade to 1.3.9h fix this?

My guess answer is: Probably not since this is not an issue caused by ZC's native code.

Based on my own experience, I recommend looking at the code for any mod(s) you have installed that affect your order totals - especially if they were created for versions of ZC prior to 139 and have never been updated.

Use a good file comparing tool (like WinMerge for example) to compare the files from the possible culprits to the original code for your version of ZC.
