ZC Versions and Addons

As a moderate computer programmer and a new ZC user, I wonder about the lists of addons.

I recognize that those addons are written and maintained by their authors, but I have a couple of questions about how addons mesh with the variations of ZC, and the ZC Version listed with the addon:

1. How does one know if an add on will work with a later version of ZC than what is listed? Is Trial/Error the only way? There are risks of unknown/unintended defects with this method.

2. 1.3x have lettered variations (eg: for 1.39 there is 1.39a to 1.39h). How does one know, for a given letter update, if there is full compatibility with a given addon?

3. Is there some -general- advice about whether addons will work with a ZC version which is later than what is posted on the add on listing? By example only, guidelines such as this: "if one is using 1.39h, templates in categoriesXYZ generally work if listed at 1.34 and above"

4. Is the code within those addons vetted by anyone or any team for security issues?

5. Is there a means to show off only those addons which are listed as working with particular versions. I'm thinking ideal would be a system that works much like Mozilla's Fox addons. But even a simple listing of all addons compatible with 1.39h would be nice.

Unfortunately there is no simple way to decide if a particular mod is likely to work with a particular ZC version. Some ZC files have been unchanged for five years or more, while some have been significantly updated six months ago. Mod version numbers don't usually relate to ZC version numbers; some of them are good for a wide range of versions, while some are very picky. This would make a list of compatible mods difficult, as someone would have to spend the time to vet every mod for every new version... and then there are the "mostly works" or "works with a tweak here" cases...

And yes, submitted mods are not approved until the devs look at them for security.
