We can't answer from the information you have given. What do the instructions say? What folders are in the template package?

Sorry for the vague question.
I am trying to put a new template onto my site. I downloaded the template package from this site. It is the litered template. I am connected to my FTP via FileZilla. I have read that once you put the template .zip and extract the files, go to the zc_admin screen and click 'tool' -> 'template selection' and choose it from the drop down box. But all that is in the drop down box is 'classic'.
I am having a tough time understanding the file system. The words 'include, template, and language' is everywhere lol. I understand the override system too.
If I need to provide more info please let me know. I am eagerly trying to get my sites new template up so I can begin giving it its face lift.
Thanks

If from this site...but I did not see a template named litered
On your local see the includes folder
On your remote navigate to where you see the folders includes, your admin, email, stc
Drag the local incluses to the file space - not on top of any folder
The contents will be transferred to the correct locations

I did what you said. Still nothing to choose from in the zc_admin panel. What could I be doing wrong?

There is no 'litered' template, but there is a 'lite red' template. From the Install instructions which come bundled with it:
- Log in to the admin area.
- Go to the Tools -> Template Selection.
- Click on the 'Classic Contemporary Green' template name.
- Select 'LiteRed' value for the selectbox on the right and click on the 'Update' button.
- Go to the Tools -> Layout Boxes Controller.
- Click on the 'Reset' button on the bottom.

In your main Zen Cart /includes/ folder, do you have a /templates/lite_red/ folder (or similar spelling)? Does it have a template_info.php file in it?

I downloaded that template to check it out and the template_info.php file is there in the package.

Just checking to make sure that it got uploaded correctly to the site:)

Yes I have those folders and I have that file.
Is there a next step I need to take?

If that folder and file are in the correct place, you should see the LiteRed option in Template Selector. If you don't, there is something wrong and I have no idea what it could be.

I am fairly certain I have the files/folders in the correct place, as I have been trying to following the direction.
Would it be unwise to delete the 'classic' folder? (the default template)

I FINALLY GOT THE NEW TEMPLATE TO SHOW UP.
Reloaded the page after I applied the changes, and the side categories are gone (the example of the template has them there as I would like them).
Is this something I need to add?

Nevermind, finished the installation instructions. Now I'm trying to get the mess of this stuff figured out!
My site is here:

How can I change the text in the top menu bar links?
Black Belt
Did you delete define() statements for the ones that look like TOP_MENU_SPECIALS ? If not, you may have a file missing or corrupt. Look in /includes/languages/english/lite_red/ or a nearby /lite_red/ folder for a file with those defines.
