Need Option value to show an Image in Attribute drop down menu.

I am working on a website and my customer has 40 different color options. They want the color swatch to change with each option. Right now all the swatched show all the time, i can change how many are in each row but he wants them to change when you click on it from a dropdown.

For example:

Drop down has blue, green, yellow

When i select yellow from the drop down a small box is under it with the color yellow.

Right now blue, green and yellow boxes are visable at all times. This is not going to work.

If that isn't possible I have found a way to put the image next to the option value by putting the image code in the option value name in admin but it only works in a radio button form. When i try to make it a dropdown, it doesn't show the image anymore. It shows the code.

If you have a solution or know someone who does and you can point me in a direction where i can fix this mess it would be greatly appreciated.
