Do I have to use the zc_install or can I manually install everything

I am working on what appears to be a backup copy of a zencart install and dumped database file (*.sql). Anyway, can I just do a manuall install? Would I basically just have to modify the 2 config.php files, import the database and modify file and directory permissions? I'm not sure if this question has ever been asked.

Maybe easier to just install the latest version and after that import the DB and if not the same version -
Re-run zc_install and upgrade DB only
