Unnecessary images being displayed

Hi all,

I have create a new category and its sub-category and the product too..

I have some pre-defined images just below my product which I created.

I attached a screenshot of it, its the yellow box which enclosed those images.. That can provide a better understanding of my issues.

How to remove these images??

Thanks

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Those appear to be the product additional images from the sample data. Did you actually create that product or did you just edit a product which was there ?

I would suggest you remove all the sample categories and products before adding your own.

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Hi.

Thanks for your post..

I added a new category and a sub-category and a product named Laptop which is displayed above the pre-defined images.

Bt how must I get rid of those sample images?
The yellow rectangle based on the screenshot I attached.

Thanks

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

You need to delete all of the sample categories and products which were installed when you installed Zencart.

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Disabling additional images in that way means that you can never use more than one image for a product. A better way would be to identify the filenames of the erroneous images and delete them from your server. You should also study the tutorial on additional images to understand why they are showing up, and prevent it from happening in the future.

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Why are you not able to use FTP? Do you just not know yet, or is something preventing you? Filezilla is not complicated to start with, as long as you know your FTP port, username and password - your host can tell you this.

Read the tutorials on "additional images":

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Hi,

Yea, i read these 2 tutorials and even in the e-book..

There need to be a base image n the additional images.

And its only said that additional images need to be uploaded via FTP.. Not mentioning how to use FileZilla

Am using the FileZilla as it comes with the XAMPP. FileZilla is running through XAMPP

For Host :127.0.0.1 , User:user , Port:21

I got this error:
Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Command: USER user
Response: 331 Password required for user
Command: PASS ****
Response: 530 Login or password incorrect!
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server

Where shall I look for the port??

Somebody plz help..

Thanks

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

The "Filezilla server" that comes with Xampp may not be made for what you are doing. Try downloading Filezilla from https://www.sourceforge.net and using that one.

Are you working on a local installation of Zen Cart? If you are, there is no need for FTP yet. You can just copy the files into the /images/ folder.

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

With multiple images you have to follow a certain naming to get them to show up, study the 2 links provided above. To see the extra images rename them laptop_a.jpg and laptop_b.jpg and upload them to the images folder. But that's a rather generic name so you need to think about how to name your images and give them a unique name so they won't be overwritten the next time you list a different laptop and give the image the same name.

Spend some time on the links above and there's also an Image Handler add on in the Downloads section.....

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

Thats wat I did i use the convention '_' to define my additional images..

I did mention it above in my post..

Base image: laptop.jpg
Additional images: laptop_sideview.jpg ; laptop_backview.jpg..

I copy & paste my additional images in the same directory as my base image.. Bt still nothing appears..

Re: Unnecessary images being displayed

From what you say, the additional images should be showing for that product. You did select the base image in Catalog > Categories/Products > your product, right? And the base image is showing with the product?

There is no specific requirement for additional image names like _a and _b, only that the base name is at the beginning of the additional image name. If the images are in the base /images/ folder, even the _ is optional (but still a good idea). And if you are not going to have too many images to comfortably handle in one folder, putting them all in /images/ makes for fewer complications.
