Need 2 Postage options Slow and Fast - both with different free shipping thresholds

I have searched all around, installed a dozen or so shipping modules, cloned a couple, and after many hours still can't seem to get to the result I need. I think I am missing some really fundimental in my approach, I am hoping someone can help me, esp. if someone has done this config before - or if anyone knows of a module(s) that will do the job.
The shipping options required:
Express Next Day Delivery:
Order Value-------------------------Shipping Cost
Over £0.00 and up to £50.00------£5.95
Over £50.00 and up to £100.00---£2.95
Over £100.00-----------------------Free
Standard Delivery:
Order Value-------------------------Shipping Cost
Over £0.00 and up to £50.00------£3.50
Over £50.00-------------------------Free
I can't seem to configure it so that a customer can "upgrade" the speed of thier delivery if thier order is over £50 (ie, qualifies for "free standard shipping").
I will post back responses to help others out if I find a way, although I would appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction...
