Switching Hosts, Can I bring my customer data with me?

I am switching from one host to another (from GoDaddy.com or HostGator if this helps with clarity).

Obviously my store is e-commerce. Once my site on HostGator (being completely redone) is finished, I will be making the switch with the nameservers. However, I just realized, are my customers that have shopped with me before going to have to re-register? The answer seems likely that they will, but if there is anyway to transport this data to the new host please point me in that direction.

Has anyone else been faced with this dilemma?

Thanks for the link/help, But I am sorry as I did not specify enough. The first website is not a zen-cart website. It is just an e-commerce template that goDaddy has (AFAIK).

If the data is stored in an SQL database, you might be able to export it and use one of the versions of Easy Populate to import it.

Your biggest problem might be the differnece in the format of the data (the way it's stored).

This was my first thought. Data conversion will most likely be out of the question for this project.

That's why I suggested trying Easy Populate. I haven't used it and I'm not sure it'll help with customer info, but you can try.

Do you have a lot of customer info? Could it be done manually?

I suppose it could be, and I will have to look into this. Itd be nice if the customers did not have to re-sign up. I'll see what works.

Look around in the Wiki and the tutorials and see if there's any explanations of the database layout for Zen Cart. It might help you figure out how to import. Or if you have customers in Zen Cart (even test ones) you can export them to see how the data matches up and try to format your old data to match.
