Does a template for vers 1.3.8 work on a 1.3.9h install?

I am about to install zen cart 1.3.9h for a new website, and wonder if I can use a template that was created for vers 1.3.8x?

Re: Does a template for vers 1.3.8 work on a 1.3.9h install?

http://www.zencartwebsite.com are selling templates for half price, stating that their templates work on 1.3.8/1.3.9....but there is no contact info and overall this template site looks a bit bogus to me...has anyone any experience with templates from https://www.zencartwebsite.com?

It looks to me as though they are reselling Template Monster templates, but at less than half price, which does raise the suspicion that these might not be legitimate sales through TM's affiliate scheme, but rather pirated copies.

You might want to address your question to Template Monster as they're the authors of the templates (some of which TM only claims 1.3.8 compatibility for) and check whether this vendor is a legitimate affiliate, i.e. whether there is any support for your purchase.

Are there any other legitimate template providers other than TM and algozone.com?

I am looking for templates for the 1.3.9h version.

I don't see why not, presuming there is little or no custom coding. The default 'classic' template that comes with any v1.3.9 is pretty much the same as that used in 1.3.8a.

The learning is in the doing.

The only one who can answer that question is the designer of the template. The two template sellers you mentioned are infamous for hacking non-template code to create their designs, and it's entirely possible a 1.3.8 template won't work with 1.3.9.

Re: Does a template for vers 1.3.8 work on a 1.3.9h install?

This is what Template Monster responded:

  1. "www.zencartwebsite.com seem to be offering our templates at lower prices so I'm sending a request to our piracy department to deal with these guys"

  2. "Our zen cart 1.3.8 templates are fully compatible only with that version"

"Our zen cart 1.3.8 templates are fully compatible only with that version"

..and not really fully compatible with any version >:)
