Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

I'm a newbie fooling around with the templates. I have a template I purchased from Algozone named ZCXXXXXX. I have installed it twice because I started over again. When I am in the Tools<Template Selection Area I now have my classic template and the ZCXXXXXX showing up twice. I thought I deleted one but it still shows in the drop down menu. Can I delete one of them so it's not so confusing - and since one of them is totally screwed up. How do I do that? Yes, even though I'm not using it, I don't want to see it anymore! Thank you.

Re: Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

If it's just the Admin - Tools - Template Selection you're concerned with, just delete the template_info.php file from one of the includes/templates folders.

with your file manager or ftp client go to:

/public_html/includes/templates/the template you dont want/
and delete (or rename)template_info.php:smile:

Re: Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

Thank you!

It worked, BUT, there was only one instance of ZCXXXXXX in the folder and yet one still remains in my drop down area of the template selection folder. Any idea why? I'm hoping to have only the 'classic' template' left so I can start over.

Re: Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

Assuming you have the copy of your files (templates), use the ftp, browse to includes/templates, and delete all the folders of the templates you don't want, you can delete the clasic folder as well, and re-upload it from the original Zen Cart package.

Re: Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

There is new good option in 1.5.5. to clone templates.
It appears that cloning process creates a set of files in different areas of file/folders structure.

When experimenting and making mistakes, there is a need to delete unused templates and their structures, just to avoid accumulating of garbage.

Is it possible to delete (remove) unused templates and unnecessary files associated with them?

Clone a Template doesn't (currently) support a template's removal, but I've added your request to the plugin's GitHub repository for tracking.

Re: Deleting unused templates in Template Selection Area

Thank you for the fast reply.

For others to inform, as Donal pointed above in this Thread, removing

/public_html/includes/templates/the template you don't want/

removes all unnecessary files associated with this template.

That removes all the template-output files associated with the template, but doesn't remove any of the other template-override files created (e.g. languages and modules). If you used the "Clone a Template" plugin to (er) clone a template, there's a debug-log file generated that contains a list of all files copied in that cloning operation.

It is understood.
