I want to make a Loyalty Discount module

Where can i find some tehnical details on how to make a module that will work in the folder order_total . I want to make a loyalty discount module and i don`t understand exactly how it works.

gilby - I dont want a module make it already i want to a special made . I will figure out what functions i need and what i do not i will see some example. That module is complicate and i dont need something like that
