Configuration menu giving 404 error in Admin

This must have been posted before, but I have also failed to find this post as well. :(

anyway, on to the problem

User level: Zen Nubist

Fresh install on a linux server

I have managed to install and log in to the admin panel, all the menu options work apart from the first one (configuration) which is throwing up 404 errors.

I can't fathom it. I must be making connection to the database as all the other functions are fine, but my PHP is worse than rusty (coming from a Windowed world I don't get involved with PHP much)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

After several hours of scratching my forehead (seemed longer to be honest) I just thought I'd try something ... Blow me! it worked.

Anyone else having this problem

CHMod <renamed admin directory>/configuration.php to 444
