Sub Categories Not showing up in side menu

This may answer my question. This is a fresh install of Zen Cat 1.39. Added Categories and sub categoires

For Example

Sports
Baseball
Arizona Diamondbacks
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3

	Atlanta Braves
	 Product 1
  	 Product 2
  	 Product 3

	Baltimore Orioles
	 Product 1
  	 Product 2
  	 Product 3

	Boston Red Sox
	 Product 1
  	 Product 2
  	 Product 3

So sub category Baseball will not show up be cause it has sub categories in it as well.

I am guessing it has something to do with this. https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=271

"Note: A category can hold sub-categories or products, but not both at the same level."

Is there a way to work around this?

I have search the forum and have not found anything.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Sub Categories Not showing up in side menu

Your list does not show what is organized under/inside what. Are all the teams inside Baseball? Are all the products shown inside their team?
If Baseball has products directly in it as well as subcats, then the center column will not show its subcategories because there is no page template built to display both products and subcats.

Yes, The top level category is sports, all subcategories such as baseball are below sports.

Sub-category Baseball has its own subcategories and those are the teams.

The teams are where the products are listed.

I tried linking a product to subcategory baseball and that didn't work.

I tried adding a prodcut directly to baseball but am unable to do that as I get the following message:

"NOTE: Category has SubCategories
Products cannot be added "

Not sure what else to do.

What kind of workaround are you wanting to do? If you want products and subcats directly in the same category, forget it. It won't work.

Re: Sub Categories Not showing up in side menu

Because the category has sub categories, it will not display when the main category is clicked on in the left side navigation. It will show at the top.

Re: Sub Categories Not showing up in side menu

What do you have for Configuration > Product Listing > Show SubCategories on Main Page while navigating ?

Seeing the site would have gotten to this question much quicker.

Re: Sub Categories Not showing up in side menu

Your template is using a sidebox mod which creates nested <ul> lists, but puts vacant <ul></ul> in all top cats with subcats (and not in top cats with only products). If it makes that mistake, maybe it omits subcats with subcats? ```

<h3 class="leftBoxHeading" id="categoriesHeading">Categories</h3> <div id="categoriesContent" class="sideBoxContent"> <ul> <li><a class="category-top" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1">Afghans & Throws</a> <ul></ul> </li> <li><a class="category-top" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2">Broil King</a> <ul> <li><a class="category-products" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_73">  |_ Buffet Servers</a> </li> <li><a class="category-products" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_18">  |_ Double Ranges</a> </li> ... <li><a class="category-products" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_72">  |_ Warming Trays</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li><a class="category-top" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3">Civil War Collectibles</a> <ul></ul> </li> <li><a class="category-top" href="http://www.b...._shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=21">Gift Certificates</a> </li> ``` The upshot of all this is that it appears to be a bug in the template, and you should bring it up in the template's support thread.
