ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

This cheatsheet identifies the override possibilities for various directories in the Zen Cart structure. I thought I'd post it here before submitting it to the Free Software Add-Ons to see if there's any interest and/or suggestions for improvement.

Just extract the files and then bring up the file zc_overrides_139.htm in your browser window.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

DrByte, the add-on you referenced identifies the locations of the template-specific overrides only. My submission attempts to pull together all the override possibilities available in Zen Cart.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

Fair. Was just curious. Hadn't reviewed yours yet.

NOTES:
a) /index_filters/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ is also valid since 1.3.9

b) I would probably add a little emphasis to your comments about copying from template_default that it's not necessary to copy the entire template_default folder: just the files you want to change.

c) I would also suggest adding to your comments about header_php.php files that a good reminder would be to NEVER rename any existing header_php.php files for backup purposes. ie: header_php-old.php would STILL get loaded, and could cause all manner of confusion and complicated debugging steps. (Same point is valid for all other auto-inclusion folders, but this one is particularly volatile because of the existing files vs the other folders where usually one is only adding new files.)

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

Here's v1.0.1 of the cheatsheet. I've incorporated DrByte's comments and found another override location.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

BEYOND EXCELLENT.

As to the renaming of files, I have a small addition to that of DrByte's. Renaming a file to .bak will raise PCI flags. I generally use my initials and rename filename_here.php to filename_here.jet. As long as you are not J.Paul Getty, George I Foxworthy, or Peter H Phillips, etc. there should be no problem. AND, your changes are easily found later with a search.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

I've just uploaded v1.1.0 to the Plugins area; it identifies the override location for the newly-added in Zen Cart v1.5.3 auto-loaded observers.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

I've just submitted v1.1.1 to the Plugins for review (https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1393).

This minor update notes that the override locations hold for Zen Cart versions 1.3.9 through 1.5.5b and makes a notation on those locations where the files are loaded in file-system order (as opposed to alphabetically).

This isn't a "normal" plugin; it's just a file containing documentation. You can unzip the plugin's zip-file on your local machine and open it for viewing with your web-browser.

Re: ZC Overrides Cheatsheet

I've had this as a bookmark for ages. Great tool.

Just wondering a little on the includes/modules/pages portion.

If customizing includes/modules/pages/ask_a_question, would you add header_phpask_a_question.php in the folder or header_phpresponsive_classic.php?

Trying to figure some way to recognize the template being used for that file. Of course there's the problem if the next template is "quick_run" it won't have a chance until the header_phpresponsive_classic.php is removed.

Asking for a friend. :P
