Trying to restore zen cart version v1.3.7

Hello Zen Cart Magicians,

I'm trying to help a friend with their zen cart. They were running a very old version (v1.3.7) and got hacked. I am trying to help restore the old version so I can upgrade it to a newer version. I've transfered all the old files, and then installed the database.

The odd thing is it requires me to have the folder zc_install, and the homepage forwards me to zc_install. I don't really understand that. If I proceed using zc_install, I get about 3 pages in and it cannot find another page. So what am I doing wrong? I would think a full restore would look like the site previously did, but it keeps wanting zc_install.

If it keeps bouncing to zc_install then most likely the Zen Cart thinks it's a fresh install. This usually happens when the configure files are missing or inaccessible.

Which files do you think are missing? I've got configure.php, any other files that would make it bounce to zc_install? I only have one database, I'm pretty sure that's alright.

Do you have both configure.php files - the one in includes and the one in admin/includes, and do they both have the correct information for establishing database connections?

I appreciate the help. It appears it was something wrong with the full path directory and I have fixed that. I think I have fixed it now.
