What's the trick with Admin Rename Directory ??

Hello all.

Need help from experts here, I am newbie to Zen Cart.

My recently created site is disbled in the admin parth after following a link of securing it rebameing the admin directory.
Since I have a cpanel, i created another installaton, on another domain, other server, installed latest version again (minutes) and was working without problems.. after few test I then followed the instruction found here:

the same information basically under the rename of the directory

After doing that correctly doing a CHMOD for 0644 for the configure.php file , then the admin does not work anymore.

ANy cache to clear?

I did ths one with no sucess:

Any other caceh to clear, any database field to reset?

"Does not work anymore" is rather vague. What are the specific symptoms that you see.

In which order did you follow the two tutorials?

Was the admin working immediately before you changed the configure file permissions?

Did you change them from 644 or to 644? If the latter, why?

Which configure.php files permissions did you change?

The tutorial was done only the firt one, the second says the same configuration steps to rename the admin directory.

It does not work. After all the procedure, you can not enter anymore, no error in Exploer and Firefox browsers, Chrome sends a 500 internal server error. It does not appear anything.

If I return to the original files and configuration. No result, it is blocked. I already cleaned and erased all cache and ask friend to enter the new directory or original one from other computer, same result.

The only file touched was the one indicated, the :

admin/includes/configure.php

and then changed the security to READ ONLY (0644). The tutorial says that and I saw also that all PHP under that folder had that permission. Since the tutorial says only READ ONLY I assumed that was the one need it.

Yes, it was working admin before the changes.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lotr, I read about the 500 error messages.... seems like it is something with CPanel and my VPS server. In fresh new installations if I rename that directory and do the change of the file, exactly following the instructions then you are nor able to enter admin again just an error 500. I open a ticket with my hosting company but they say (as usual ) that that error is not of the server but of the application (Zeb-Cart). So I guess I wont be able to change the name of that directory so my best thing is to have strong passwords and expect nothing could enter the site.
