my admin is showing "Page not found"

Since many thousands of Zenners manage to install Zencart without a problem, it seems odd you would blame the software.

I would suggest you try installing Zencart manually and see if you have better luck. It may be the GoDaddy auto-installer is doing something weird with folder names.

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

O.K., I'll grant you my frustration at not being able to get to the admin screen makes me lash out at whatever I can. It is no consolation to know that thousands can do what I can't when I have tried to be very careful and do a very simple install.

Let's chalk it up to over expectations. I thought this was a simple tool but judging from the configuration editing, permission settings and list of post, Zen Cart is for those that want to spend time building a store rather than those that just want to sell some things online.

I will look for something simpler.

Thanks,

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

Oh, I should mention that the GoDaddy installer does do something funny as you surmissed. It names the Admin folder adminurrhtcqq.

I renamed it and changed the locations in the admin/configuration.php file. I also reset the rights on it for executable by owner. The result is I no longer get the "Page Not Found" but now it just runs and runs without ever bringing up the admin page. (i.e. no error but no success either)

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

robertduffer:

I have looked at the 3 different configuration.php files in various locations. If anyone has an idea let me know please as this has been a very disappointing project and I will only give it another hour before I bail and have another lifelong story of a bad software product.
This software is not bad at all.
Sometimes a problem can come up and it is usually our fault.
I this case I can not find a solution, but this does not means that zen cart is soemthing less then a great FREEEEEEEE software, assisted by nice persons.
ciao

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

Well, I am sorry if I offended anyone. It might be great software but I never got far enough to see it. I am not alone by any means in having difficulty in just getting into the admin screen. While that might be GoDaddy's fault, Zen Cart's or my own, it is disappointing to get sopped on step 1.

Consider this thread closed. I will try VirtualMart for Joomla and see how that goes.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

The solution is simple. Do not rename any folders, etc. Go to the FTP tree for our website. Change the permission for the 'admin.php' file to Executable by Owner.

I had the same problem and this solution worked well.

Good luck,
Seth

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

New wrinkle to the problem. The site worked flawlessly all day. I loaded up a new template and now it doesn't work again. Checked the permissions but nothing has worked. Any ideas?

erased my browsing history, cookies, rebooted the computer, etc and even after the admin page worked flawlessly all day, it's decided not to work again. Any ideas.

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

also, removed the new template file and have rechecked the permissions. Nothing is really different from earlier today. I really don't understand. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. oh and it's hosted on justhost been with them for years with my other website could it be that they don't like zencart ???????

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

Well, using an auto-installer does get around the problem of entering the wrong information when installing manually.

However, your hosting company has "Directory Browsing" enabled, which is a security risk. You need to get them to disable that asap.

Re: my admin is showing "Page not found"

The error you were getting was a "500 - Internal Server Error", which is more likely to have something to do with incorrectly coded .htaccess files than a misconfigured website.

For now I'd worry more about getting your hosting company to disable "Directory Browsing".

thanks they've sorted the Directory Browsing issue, so how can I resolve the .htaccess files problem I'd really prefer a manual installation but as I said I gave up as I kept having the same results:frusty:

I could be wrong but ....
I would have expected

/home/elcmsco1/rvsolarsystems.co.uk/public_html/store/');

rather than

/home/elcmsco1/public_html/rvsolarsystems.co.uk/store/');

if the rvsolarsystems.co.uk was there at all
